MG TD TF 1500 - Car SOS

We recently had a thread raised by one of our American contributors about the Wheeler Dealers TV programme. I don't know how many of us have access to the Car SOS programmes where a classic car is restored for an owner who is unable to carry out work on their car, generally through ill health. I have always been sceptical about such programmes and have suspected that many "fuzzy lenses' are used. However as part of my annual trip to the Classic Car Show in Birmingham I visited the British Motor Industries Museum at Gaydon and they have some of the Car SOS cars on display including the AC Acecca. I was totally amazed with the cars. The standard of restoration was unbelievable. They would scare off most of the competition at Pebble Beach. A visit to the museum is HIGHLY recommended.

Jan,

We have a similar show here called "Garage Squad". They come in and finish up a stalled restoration/revival. 99% of the episodes I have seen involve American Muscle Cars, but I dod see one which involved a TR-6, if I recall correctly.

We have a great LBC car club here in New Jersey. We also have a "Garage Squad. It consists of several members who are willing and able to assist other members with car problems. The help is almost always mechanical rather than cosmetic. Many of our members have their cars reliably on the road, thanks to our garage squad.
We meet quite often at someone's home or at a local gas station that gives us two lifts to use on a Saturday from 10 to 4.

Sounds like a great idea - many would, no doubt, appreciate that kind of support.

My Club (Foothills British Car Club, Greenville, Pickens and Anderson, SC) is fortunate to have from a member's legacy, a pretty fully equipped garage with a four-post lift (ours) and a two-post lift (another member's). We meet there every third Saturday and at other times when a member wants to work on a car. It's been a great membership benefits enhancer. It's amazing the stuff that other members know about cars and especially our British cars.
