MG TD TF 1500 - Charging System vs. Bugeye Sprite

An acquaintance is having problems with the charging system in her 1959 Sprite. Googling leads me to suspect that the generator and Voltage Regulator are interchangeable with those of a TD. Anybody know if this is the case? TIA, Bud

The regulator probably would be.

The generator may be, but you would need to check the length of the body.

Can't say about the regulator but I have been running a Sprite Generator for many years....little higher output.

I have cross checked the Lucas master parts manual for the differences between the TD and Sprite charging parts, and found that, for the TD (4 post regulator on the TD), they use the same part number, but with a different suffix; I checked what these differences are and found that the sprite generator does not have a band around the brushes, whereas TD does. For the regulator the difference is the value of the cutout resistor. For the sprite it is 60 ohms, for the TD it is 63 ohms. In that case I am sure that they are interchangeable.

Depends on the TD.

Later TDs had a simple voltage regulator type RB106 which will fit the Sprite without any alterations.

Early TDs had a regulator/fusebox type RF91 with 2 fuses and extra terminals.

OOPS .. early TD had RF95 regulator fusebox.
