MG TD TF 1500 - Cheap Man's wheel alignment
As a first attempt and following a suggestion from the forum.... Have yet to make the tool for the "Across the car measurement" This quick and dirty method looks to have some issues. Either that or my car is not strait??? ![]() |

I made my own rig using dexion angle iron. It slides in between the front wheels and will set the toe - in very accurately. One long horizontal length and a short vertical length at each end that reach just above mid point of the wheels, giving a giant U shape. An adjustable bolt on each end projects at axle height. Slide between the front and back of the wheels alternately, making adjustments until the bolts just touch the front of the rims but give a 1/8" gap at the rear, you then have 1/8" toe - in, which is fine for a TD or TF on radial tyres. Dave Is this a typo or have I totally misunderstood 'toe in'. You say 'until the bolts just touch the front of the rims but give a 1/8" gap at the rear, you then have 1/8" toe - in' I had thought the 1/8" gap should be at the front of the wheel rims, to give toe-in. Your formula sounds like toe-out. I await enlightenment! |

Ian, Dave is correct. Think of the front wheel contact patch as being a footprint, toes toward the front. Toe-in implies that the spread of the toes is less than that of the heels, i.e., Toe-in = Heels-out. Bud |

No, its toe in - the front of the rims / wheels are closer together. Dave H |

Ian,Dave's measurement is between the wheel. Rod's measurement is on the outside. |

Yep, I follow, it is the difference of 'between the wheels' and the outside the rim of the wheels. Understood, thank you. |
