MG TD TF 1500 - Choke Cable Penetration
Can't get a clear answer on this one. I have all the other penetrations & locations sorted & managed to fit suitable grommets. As TD production progressed the location & layout of some of the bulkhead penetrations changed. A case in point are the location of the speedo & harness holes on the driver's side of RHD cars. It's been suggested that perhaps the choke cable uses the same penetration as the speedo cable. Checked the gallery on CC's site but couldn't find the info I need, that being the early & late locations for the choke penetration/path on RHD cars. Anybody? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter If you Google "MG TD Bulkhead" there are a multiple links to images and Malcolm Greens Drawings which confirms what you posted. Seems the two items may not have been separated until the TF. Of topic are you a jack collector I have two that are surplus which are going for under market value, no handles sorry. Graeme |

I've seen Green's drawing which shows all three in the one large penetration. It's also on CC's site. In the later TD the harness & speedo had their own hole. I just wanted confirmation that the speedo & choke did share that penetration. Yes to the jacks. I'll email you. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Penetration sorted but I'm still unsure of the path of the cable from the gearbox to the bulkhead. This is for a RHD car. Two possible paths have been suggested. One is between the chassis rail & the pedal box & the other is secured to the face of the pedal box cover with a 'P' clip. Be nice to also know the original route around the starter & the steering column. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

If it helps the speed cable on a Y-Type passes between the chassis rail and the pedal box !. I have seen this on multiple un-restored original cars. Cheers Tony |

Graeme I need a couple of period jacks, for the YT and TD. I can pick up in late June when I am next down in Newcastle and Sydney. contact me offline at lesley_stuart at bigpond com cheers Stuart |

Thanks Tony. The path between the chassis rail & the pedal box makes more sense as there would be a tighter radius bend in the cable with the other route. Still unclear on the path around the steering column & the ignition switch. Was the cable secured at any point with a 'P' clip? (Graeme sent me a couple of pics of his jacks but unfortunately neither were original to the TD. Great information on the following site http://www.classic-british-car-jacks.uk/shelley_jacks.htm) Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Just back from installing the speedo cable. It shares the path with the fuel line between the pedal box & the chassis fairly comfortably. This ensures a comfortable arc from the gearbox & keeps it reasonably clear of the starter switch terminals. Easy to see why they're both protected with rubber boots though. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
