MG TD TF 1500 - Chrome Bonnet Side Strips
My new strips came yesterday after waiting 2 1/2 months from Moss. They are very nice, not as perfect as the originals but very close. I was told the previous batch had many issues and was worried these would have to be sent back, but not the case. I guess Moss got on the manufacturer to make them right. Please excuse the not so good photo, small space and fluorescent lighting don't go together. PJ Oh yeah, I also found out my side curtains will take 6 weeks to arrive! ![]() |

they look pretty darn good to me, PJ! I still want to come up to LG one of these days.... Cheers, Frank |

I sometimes wonder in spite of what has been published if perhaps the originals might have been stainless steel. That along with the center strip is what I removed from my TF when I restored it. I replaced them with the chrome but I do wonder. |

For my TF 1414, the original side strips are stainless. The center strip is chrome. |

My TF 5663 has stainless centre strip and repaired and re-chromed brass side strips. |

My 1954 Matchless bike had painted wheels instead of chrome. I understand the reason was that, at that time, chrome was being reserved for use in munitions - the Korean war, particularly. Could be a reason for the use of stainless trim elsewhere. Just a thought. David |

I have a low mileage all original TF built November 30 1954. I am quite sure it too has stainless strips on the hood sides. David |

I have had TF's with stainless steel centre hinge strips. Although most are brass chromed. |

Just as an aside I have made clips for the bonnet, running board and side screen strips from stainless "washer bolts". These have a flange formed under the head and there is plenty of meat to form the tabs that slide in the strips. 100 cost me £4 on ebay. I originally made the running board clips from brass but they quickly turned green. Jan T |

Jan, Moss sells those clips in sets, not as original with the little spring wire, but they work very well. PJ |

Hi Paul, I have seen the repro clips and I think they are the same as those sold for a MGB. They are plated mild steel and I was concerned about the running board ones being "shot blast" by the front wheels and rusting. Also the ones for the side screens look nice with stainless washers and nuts. However, cutting the washer bolts to fit is very tedious. Jan |
