MG TD TF 1500 - Cloth wiring harness alternative

I'll get my TF painted later this year. I'm removing all body compenents except the tub. My original plan was to replace the wiring harness ... just because a cloth braded harness looks so nice in the engine compartment. Not sure that $400 for a new harness will make the car look THAT much better.

My harness is wrapped in PVC tape. All of the wires are plastic coated and are correctly sized and colored, including tracers. Everything works.

So I'm looking for a cheap-out alternative. Has anyone used woven wire loom that is split for insertion? I believe that it will look better than PVC tape. But I haven't seen it so it may look goofy.

Any other suggestions? Leave it as is? Bite the bullet and buy a cloth harness?

Stuff to use is Denso Tape. I have seen cars where owners have flecked paint onto the Denso to mimic original braided looms. You can just see just see part of my loom in the attached photo.

The harness on my TF was bought new from Moss many years ago and came wrapped with electrical tape. I had it wrapped with the cloth to the correct colour at Rhode Island Wiring service, Rhode Island USA. They do top notch work and are very responsive and knowledgeable. Cost me $180. US$.

Lonnie, As much attention as you have put on getting everything right, bite the bullet and get a new cloth harness! When I did the local TF1500 in the 80s, you could not even get them. When the restoration was fresh, the plastic wires always looked wrong. Moss will likely have a sale at some point. George

George - I kinda think that you're right.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
