MG TD TF 1500 - Connecting Wires to Regulator Screw Terminals

There are a few terminals where two wires are connected to terminals and one, I believe, that takes three or four wires. Two wires together is not too bad, but I have had difficulty with connecting the larger bundle of wires and getting a neat, positive connection for all the wires. The do make a step down connector which will do the job, It doesn’t look period correct. I wonder how other members of the board have approached the problem?

If you are talking about the voltage regulator and its terminal screws, what I did was fit a short bolt in place of the terminal screw, then used a nut under the bolt head and fit some eyelets to the wires which I clamped between the bolt head and the nut. Not factory but works fine.

I have had to put them in the fitting on the regulator one at a time and squish down the wire so they all will fit in, but I have never had any issue with all the wires not fitting.

I have also not had any come out once tightened in.

I lightly solder the wires as pairs, trim the exposed soldered section to length and then persuade into the post with a screwdriver.

The PB has 5 live wires in one post. It can be done!

You can solder them all together or separately, then compress them with vice grips or a similar device, slightly trimming the solder just enough to go under the grub screw. Works! PJ

More good info!

I take the grub screw out, Push the wires in from the top, then replace the screw. Make sure they seem fully in and tight. This has always resulted in a very secure connection. Be sure to check it for tightness after the first few hundred miles in case anything crushed further under the screw. Don't over-tighten or you may spread the female threads and it will come loose later.
Steve Simmons

Sounds like a good approach, but I would drop the screw into the black hole that is my engine bay for sure!
