MG TD TF 1500 - Correct Mark II Carbs Available
I have a set of completely authentic re-manufactured 4031 carbs available, if anyone with a Mark II has the wrong carbs. I could also work out a part-exchange, if your correct carbs are worn out. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Hi Tom, what is the difference between the early and late 4031 carbs? Hugh Pite |

Mark II cars all used the 4031 H4 1-1/2" carbs. Early Mark IIs used the 1-1/4" air intake manifold (snorkel) but the smaller bolt holes of the snorkel did not fit the larger flange bolt spacing of the 4031. (Nor did the small snorkel help breathing - read Tom McCahill's diatribe in Mechanix Illustrated...) To make the early snorkel fit the larger carbs, at the factory the carb flange bolt holes were enlarged with a round file (often roughly) inward, to an oblong shape. The earlier 1-1/4" air intake manifold bolts then fit. Earlier cars also used the 1-1/4" intake manifold, bored out (again, often roughly) to fit the larger carbs. Later cars used a re-designed and larger air intake manifold that had a revised bolt pattern, so there was no need to file the holes oblong. These later cars also used the later, dedicated 1-1/2" intake manifold, with bolts for the carbs (if you see one with studs, it came from a TF or TF1500). Hope this is clear, and helps.
