MG TD TF 1500 - Curious
I am curious about what you think about this TD sale price. What is driving this price? Is it because it appears to be very nice original condition with some period accessories? Or is this just an anomaly? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1953-mg-td-72/ Jim |

I don't see it either but always nice to see cars go for higher value. |

I agree |

I saw this one. Then I looked at the pictures. Chrome is very warn, as is the paint. So an older restoration. Other than wire wheels, a fancy radiator cap and aluminum valve and tappet cover, nothing I see that should jump out at you. But yes, I am glad to see prices going up. Interestingly the Yellow one with the fender skirts sold for 12,250 |

Since I have Borrani wires on my TD, hoping that's the driving force behind the higher than usual bid! HA |

The last set of 5 complete Borrani wheels, with hubs and spare adapter for a TD, sold for $1,800 about 6 months ago. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

DO A SEARCH of bidders.,,, the last bidder HYCO raised the bid by $4000 !!!! that's a lot for an auction that ends soon,,, |

SPW, Yeah, I noticed that. That's a little strange. Jim |

Actually, it all depends on how much money you have and how soon you want to part with it! I remember a story a few years ago where a guy paid around 100K to have his TF restored and was very happy with it when done. If your in the right mind set, have deep pockets, what's money for, to spend and enjoy! LOL. |

...or there is shill bidding going on Regards, Tom |

I agree Tom, shill bidding is always a possibility and tough to detect with only a couple bids. |

Car auctions are famous for shill bidding. Someone has a car that will be ready for auction/sale in several months that they really want to get an outrageous price for. Usually a nice restoration. They then put out unnaturally high bids on cars of similar, but clearly less stature, to raise the over all price. This then temporarily, or for the less savvy buyer, gives the impression that particular car model is seeing a surge in value, hence their prime example sells for much more that it would. |

HYCO has also apparently bought a variety of 4 cars on this site this month spending $189000. Lockdown must be enthusing some to increase or start collectin. |

HYCO $189.000. good figure but has he actually done it. My compliments to the sales person that wrote the description. He does have the gift of GAB. |

I am having a bit of a problem with this car. It sold for $33,750. Other TD's that were in much better condition (but did not have wire wheels) have been selling for a lot less.
This is not an original TD. It has been restored in the past and if you look closely at the pictures, It needs chrome replated and at least touchup and buff out of paint. I am happy for the owner, but I have to wonder about this one. According to BAT, this is the highest paid for a TD in 6 years. This MG YT sold two days ago for $30,250 |
