MG TD TF 1500 - Cusom built radiator spanner
Here's my new custom built radiator spanner. We are considering producing these on a 3D printer. These are the graphics and I will post a photo of the finished article later today. This one is for my car TD21284. The spanner has a step so it sits nicely on the cap and doesn't touch the false nose. We will print it out in black and do the writing in white. I think they look quite good. Regards Declan ![]() |

Very nice Declan. If I had a TD. I'd have one, but mine, as we all know, is a fake. PJ |

While very nice looking, I am not sure why these are needed. For over 50 years I just use my bare hand. If it's hot I use a towel. What am I missing? |
Christopher Couper |
What you're missing Chris is that many T Series owners are of the age when hand strength is an issue just due to age, arthritis, etc. At my age (75) I find it difficult and sometimes painful to open jars, bottles and MG T radiator caps. It just comes with age I guess. For the last 12 years I used the wooden Moss cap remover and it saved a lot of pain and made the job much easier. We carry a lot of "stuff" in our cars, so adding a cap wrench is too easy to ignore. Plus Declan's is "purdy." :-) |

Nicely done. I do think the warning about opening slowly is unwarranted though. There is no pressure! Even if the coolant is boiling, it's safe to open. |
Steve Simmons |
Steve, That same warning is actually stencilled on Morris Minor radiators. They aren't pressurised either. Could have been a Health & Safety issue in it's infancy back in those days. Reminds me of the drying the cat in the microwave story!! Regards Declan |

Well done, Declan Klaus |

Very nice looking item, Declan! Putting the car number on it is a very nice touch, too. BobbyG |

Declan, as always, yours is much finer than mine in Carolina. Mine has been referred to as a rebound slingshot. a helluva flyswatter and a ping-pong paddle on steroids :-) Jud Bottom line: I like yours a lot. ![]() |

I think the Morris Minor coolant system is pressurised, as the side vent on the radiator cap is above the spring loaded plunger that shuts off the filler hole. Thus the warning is valid. |

This seems like a solution in search of a problem - there are at least three different wrenches on the market already, in wood and plastic, and all work perfectly well. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

RA, You are right-it is pressurized. My mistake! Regards Declan |

Not quite as fancy. Made mine from plywood in a few minutes. Mike TD15250 ![]() |
