MG TD TF 1500 - Dash Wiring Harness
For my 1952 TD I bought British Wiring’s harness and dash sub harness. I’m looking for some pointers for the dash sub harness. I’m not sure how the sub harness relates to the overall wiring diagram. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks! Tom Capehart TD 16468 |

The wiring diagram doesn't really call out the dash wiring very distinctly. Best to lay the harness on the back side of the dash, then using the color code identify what color wire goes where. It should then be more obvious. You can also compare the new harness with the existing wiring with them laid side by side. Mark each wire with a small tag as to its function and position as a memory aid. |

Thanks Lee and JK. Both very helpful! I’ve already pulled tge old harness out. Most of it seemed jury-rigged but I did save it. I’ll have a closer look. The diagram should prove helpful too. Most appreciated. Tom |

One Critical point. You said this is a 1952. Is it an early 52? Dished speedo/tach? There is a difference in the dash wiring between the early TD and the later TD, but the dash harness they sell is meant for the later TD. |

Did yours come with connectors and lights sockets? This picture of a harness ready to install may help.![]() |

Thanks Christopher, Bruce and Declan. I am pretty sure I have tge later TD. c16468. My harness is very close to the one pictured but without connectors and light sockets. Declan, the diagram is a big help. I am going to jump in and start putting tge harness in. Thanks again! Tom |

Craig Seabrook built and wired my dash if you would like to see a picture of it. |

Rich, a photo might be helpful, thanks. Tom |

Hi Bruce, what do you mean by a “dished” speedo/tach and which car have it? Thanks much! |
T Capehart |
These are the dished style. Earlier cars had flat faced gauges.

The dished speedo and tack have a built in light (it clips into the metal body). The flat dish has three lights that have a bracket that screws into the wood of the dash. You have to build a ground wire and add an additional red power wire for the early dash. |

Irrelevant comment: I have a '53 TD with the dished instruments. I'm not going to change anything but I do think the old instruments with their outlined numerals are much more attractive. Jud |

Jud. Not sure what variations were available to MG, but here is a speedo that came on a barn find that Bill Chasser had. Note the different numerals. They are not outlined, but filled in. (these are on a chronometric (flat faced) gauge) ![]() |

Interesting. My friend's early '51 has the outlined numerals that I think look spiffy but I don't have a photo. Thanks. Jud |
