MG TD TF 1500 - Dave Clark Retiring - Tom Lange taking over
After 11 years of manufacturing and selling Dave Clark axles, I have decided it is time to retire. I have asked Tom Lange of MGT Repair to take over my TD and TF axle shaft business, since the axles seem to best fit with the other excellent products he manufactures and distributes. Tom is a knowledgeable MG enthusiast, an honest, respected and reliable gentleman with whom to do business, and I recommend him without reservation. From now on, Tom will be the sole supplier of the axles developed by Jerry Austin and later sold by me, and I am pleased that these excellent axles will continue to be available. I have transferred my entire stock of axle shafts and related parts to Tom, and he will shortly be in a position to provide axles to owners of TD and TF cars, whether equipped with wire or disc wheels.
I will also be concluding my business of installing alternative gearsets in T-series differentials, once I have completed the last few differentials for which I have orders. MGA 4.3 and 4.1 ring and pinions are getting harder to find, and this seems like a good time to end my work with these modifications. While Tom is not taking over this portion of the business, he may be in a position to provide modified differentials in the future, as gearsets are available. I am grateful to the many hundreds of customers who have purchased and installed my axle shafts, and am proud to say that in all the years since these axles were introduced, there has not been a SINGLE axle breakage reported to me, even in cars used regularly for racing. I retire with a great sense of satisfaction and pride. Henceforth, for all information regarding these Dave Clark/MGT Repair axles, I ask you to please contact Tom Lange directly at tlange@acadia.net, and also see his home-page at mgtrepair.net Dave Clark |

Congratulations Dave. You built the rear for my car using the MGA 4.3 over 8 years ago. It truly transformed the driving experience. Thank you. Tom '54 TF |

Like everyone else, I have the best respect and regard for Dave and Tom. Wishing Dave the best in enjoying his retirement. That said, it leaves me to wonder who might carry the torch in offering the rear 4.3 conversion program. Good Axles are going to continue to be in demand, But what about the rear end exchange program? Dave, Tom are there any thoughts about a possible source or is this going away, and we are on our own in the future? |

There is a guy in Falls River, MA that advertises on Ebay from time to time, he does not ship unfortunately. There is also a guy just north of NY City that is on Ebay from time to time. A while back I spoke with somebody in NJ that can do them but he does not have core so you have to take yours in, wait 2 or 3 weeks and pick it up. I will see if I can find any details. Peter |

I have the capability (and tools) to do it, I just struggle with the availability of 4.3 MGA gearsets. They are a pig in a poke, and almost of half the ones I have bought in the past decade have been rusty or otherwise unsuitable, with worn or chipped teeth.
I just can't see paying $3-500 for an MGA pumpkin. It's just like the Datsun 210 transmissions - they used to be positively cheap, so a conversion was affordable. Now they aren't, and it isn't. At the end, Steve Neal was only doing these conversions when you sent him the transmission first! Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Thanks to all for the nice words. There is a gentalman I am dealing with for the tooling and the special tools. I will keep you informed as it progresses Dave |

Tom, A bit off topic, but are you going to be at the GOF in Lebanon ? Steve |

I am looking forward to meeting Tom Lange at Kimber Festival 2018 in a months time. He follows John Twist on the stage on 3/14. I am planning GOF in Lebanon, probably not arrive until 6/28, or even morning of 6/29. Peter |

Steve - I will not be able to be at the GOF, but am looking forward to the Kimber Fest in April (Peter - April not March). Tom Lange MGT Repair |
