Although I never had the good fortune to meet David in person, I corresponded with him via email and this forum. Nonetheless, I feel that I have lost a dear personal friend. My thoughts go out to his family and we share in this loss. I'm sure David is up there living Safety Fast.

David’s friendly, helpful, and courteous manner had a great deal to do with what attracted me to this forum to begin with. He embodied all that is best in this world. My deepest sympathies to his wife and family. I hope that in time their present pain will dissolve into fond memories of the time that they spent with him.

This is just awful news - Dave was unfailingly helpful, tolerant and generous with his huge bank of knowledge. I would like to add my condolences to his family; and would join any effort to have him remembered in some way by this MG fraternity. Rest in Peace, David.
Yours,
John.

I never got the opportunity to meet Dave upfront and personal but had more than few conversations with him in the last 6 yrs since joining this community. Dave was most always available to share his time, knowledge and expertise. The quality of his workmanship and upgrades to our fuel systems was top tier. The knowledge he gave to this and the BBS Forum was invaluable to many of us and for that alone we are eternally greatful. His family deserves our gratitude as well for allowing to share him with us over the many years. If there is a celebration of life I hope a great many enthusiasts in their region will be able to attend with their cars. It would be a fitting send off to one very special individual to the MG community. I hope information will be forthcoming for those who may wish to attend.

There will never be enough words to convey our collective losses in his passing. But I am confident that for the lives he touched in one way or another his spirit will live on in each of us. Dave is no longer afflicted by this horrible cancer. He is no longer in pain or suffering. He has gone to be face to face with the Lord. For that we can be glad and rejoice in it. Be sure in the fact the he will be sorely missed by many.

For Liz and the rest of his family...May God’s Grace always be sufficient to carry you forward. Cast your cares upon the Lord for He cares for you.

For Dave, you are now free to drive your favorite backroads on a warm sunny day at the pace you desire. With the windscreen down, the wind upon your face, and without a care in the world you leave behind...

Safety Fast my Friend

The only sure event when a human being is born is his death. But it is always an event full of sadness. David DuBois was a very helpful member for MG TD owners, and I think that was not his only help. It is very hard to close the gap.

Like everybody on this forum, I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dave. I had sought his advice a few years back about my fuel pump problems and he was ever gracious in his encouragement and advice. RIP

Condolences to the family and loved ones. Dave was a great asset to the MG community. He gave me advice several times regarding fuel pump problems. He and Liz also advised the best places to eat when in Seattle a few years ago. RIP Dave. George

A few tributes to Dave
This is from his Daughter Susan Colombo:
Dave DuBois, our membership chair (MG'T' Register) and longtime member, lost his battle with Lymphoma on Saturday, January 26 surrounded by his wife, Liz, and both his children, David and Susan. As some of you may know he was my father and the reason I love these cars (and the T Register). His love for MG's started in high school when he bought his very first TD. He sold that car when he joined the Navy, but was determined to own another TD eventually. He and Mom eventually bought their current '53 TD in 1973 and joined the club when I was 2 years old. My brother and I grew up riding in the back of our TD (and various other MG's) in numerous club rally's and tours. Dad always believed these cars were meant to be driven and, in fact, both my parents drove the MG's on an almost daily basis. They were known to drive these cars on long road trips - including one that involved both their '53 TD and a '33 PB and two small children! His love for the car went far beyond just driving them - while he would probably dismiss this, his knowledge of MG's was world-renown; he wrote many articles about various issues and was often called upon to help answer troubleshooting questions. He was a true MG Enthusiast! Safety Fast, Dad.

Services are to be determined at this time.

I asked Larry Kanaster to write a tribute for Dad as we knew this time was coming all too soon. Below is what he wrote (many thanks, Larry!):

"We have all missed seeing Dave and Liz DuBois this past year. They have been active for so many years that many of us feel they have been the glue which has held the club together. Dave had a battle with lymphoma which had been in remission for many years. Last February the lymphoma returned and once again he started chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Sadly, the treatment failed and Dave passed away on January 26th.

Dave and Liz joined the MG’T’ Register in 1973 after buying their 1953 MG TD. They have owned a variety of MGs throughout the years since then. He served the Register as President for 4 terms, Vice-President for 2 terms, Treasurer for over 10 years and most recently Membership Chairman since 1999. Dave was awarded the Register Ralph Brookes Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution three times and he and Liz won the Ed William’s Driving Trophy twenty times.

Dave was always ready to assist anyone with their MG problems. He was a noted expert on MG SU fuel pumps and converted many such pumps to a modern solid-state condition. His name was often seen on the British Bulletin Board Service for MG enthusiasts offering help for MG owners. When a problem or question was posted regarding fuel systems it was guaranteed that Dave’s name would quickly appear offering assistance. It was not uncommon to read Bulletin Board comments such as ‘got an MG problem, call Dave’; ‘got an MG question, call Dave’; ‘need help with fuel systems, definitely call Dave’.

Dave will be very much missed by all of us. So, a toast to Dave DuBois—husband, father, grandfather, mentor, friend. It was indeed a grand ride."

Peace all,
Rob C.

L E D LaVerne

Thanks for letting us all know. Count me as one of the many assisted by Dave over the years. My TD 'Tommy' has his suppressor across the hydraulic brake light switch. I remember running into a problem somewhere on my car during disassembly for the restoration the specifics which escape me now. Dave recommended a simple needle nose vice grips which I bought, applied and solved the problem. It has become one of my favorite simple tools, and I think of him nearly every time I use it.

Godspeed Dave. A truly good man.
Dave Braun

As many others have said he will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers go with his family and friends.

Over the years I’ve restored three MG TD’s Dave cheerfully answered any and all the questions I put to him. Although I never met Dave, he made me feel as if we were friends through our love of MG cars. I know sometimes my questions were kind of dumb but he answered everything put to him. On the MG BBS you come to know who to listen to for advice, you knew he was one of the knowledgeable ones. The whole MG community will miss him. R.I.P. David !

Dave gave selflessly to the group. I will remember him with every “tic” of my S.U. Pump.

Len,

Hey Dave get well soon! Driving season is coming soon, even in wet Washington :)!
Thank you. I am getting much better - to the point that I am in the process of converting a wood shed into a planting shed for the wife. Also got a call from the oncologist's office to let me know that the CAT scan done Monday that everything look fine - no lymphoma cells present. That is good news, but I have no allusions that they will come out of hiding again - my first bout with lymphoma was 14 years ago. At that time, all the lymphoma cells had been captured by the spleen - to the point that the spleen weight 6 pounds when they removed it and all the lymphoma cells.

Thank you for thinking of me,

Dave

May his legacy be that we honor him as the MG motto "MG the marque of friendship" also his knowledge and his willingness to help all in need.

Thanks for posting the Obit, LaVerne. Danged, I'll miss that guy. Was doing some electrical stuff on Lazarus today and kept thinking of Dave. He and Skip Kelsey were among my first help sources. Bud

Dave Dubois is in my TD as he gave me many solutions during the years. And his respons was always to the point and very kind. And whenever I did not understand, his e-mails became longer to explain patiently. Dave, you will stay in my car and in my mind. Thanks a lot and see you up there one day.
Huib Bruijstens

I think pretty much all of us have a little bit of Dave in our cars, I have a fuel pump and a brake pressure switch bypass relay of Daves on my TF and that's not mentioning the help he gave me over the years, his fuel pump and knowledge helped me restore the 72 MGB. He'll be remembered for many years to come. Such a gentleman.PJ

Bud. We have similar friends. Skip was my mentor when I first got my TD. Dave is also a part of my cars.

Thanks to LED La Verne who reached out to Liz Dubois, she graciously provided me with his technical documents. A few I had already and some did not apply to the TD/TF world.
