MG TD TF 1500 - Dehumidifier

Faced with yet another season of summer humidity leading into the autumn & winter months, where again the humidity here in Sydney will prevent me from spray painting the remaining panels, I just purchased a 22 litre dehumidifier for the rented garage. I got this second hand $900 unit for just $100 so I'm now no longer at the mercy of Sydney's climate and can paint using acrylic lacquer as and when required. I'll suck the moisture out down to about 30%, turn it off, cover the machine and get on with it. Don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. Happy days. Cheers

Peter, it wouldn't have been a problem last month in SE Qld as we had around 15mm for the month. And this is the 'wet' season!
Just jealous really as I have fallen behind with my MG work due to fixing the HGF on my Stag. It's back running again so I can get back to work on the XPAG...

Chris in desperation I was even thinking of lugging the front guards west over the mountains to a mate's place where the humidity is often below 20% most of the year, unless it's raining. Hoping to now get a wriggle on with the last of the tub repair around the driver's hinges & on the top of the B pillar. Both doors close beautifully now. Cheers

Don't forget to put water traps in your air lines too. At least throw away ones at the gun.

Chris I'm using the colour matched cans to paint the tub & remaining panels so it's just the ambient humidity that I have to be concerned about. See pic of recent spray can effort when I had 20% humidity. Cheers

I once painted a complete fire truck. Within a few hours after painting the fog moved in. The next day we were greeted with a fogged up, no longer shiny red fire truck. :-(

So the humidity can wreak havoc until the paint cures. I would guess at least 12 - 24 hours.

That image depicting your door closure is one impressive effort.

Yeah.. I'm pretty happy with it. Cheers

Peter,

Do you have the rubber buffers installed (281-198). They will make the door stand slightly proud of the body.

I've made my own set Jim using a block of black EPDM based on the originals, but with the section that sits between the door lip and the tub thinned down considerably. Got this notion to thin them from PJ. Pretty easy to shape the EPDM with a very sharp knife and to reduce their thickness & dress them up on a linisher. This sits just proud of the tub. I haven't secured them in this pic as I still have some paint to apply to the throat of the A pillar. I have tested the door though with them in situ and the difference in fit is negligible. The work on the tub was done with this in mind. Presently working on the other door. I would have reused the originals that I purchased in 1969 but in my ignorance I fitted them way back then using just two tacks instead of the correct four. Cheers
