MG TD TF 1500 - Dennis TD Barn Find (only, please)
Looks as if the original thread has been stolen by folks debating about white paint. I've learned a few more things about the car that I'd like to pass along. I've not seen the car, but I hope to next week. I've since learned that the car is Car No. TD13768 and contains Engine #25212. Checking the Car's birth certificate I see that it was originally assembled with Engine #13940. The ID plate is a repro that is (poorly) stamped to say that 25212 is the OEM engine. TD 13768 doesn't show up in the NEMGTR CD-ROM at all. Neither of the NEMGTR member numbers (6140, 7438) relate to this car. When I learn more I'll let you know. Here's the ID plate: ![]() |

Threads do seem to grow Bud. Bit like Topsy. Apologies. I'll respond to the comment about white paint on the other thread. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Bud, I don't have room or another project, but I would be interested in purchasing the steel wheels if the new owner wants to part them out. I'll call the present owner also. Steve |

A closer look at the restamped ID plate, and some judicious work by the NEMGTR Registrar, seems to say that the Car No. is TD13769. That number is registered with the Register as having Engine No. 25212. But the Register Member # doesn't match either of the plates. Stay tuned. I'll pass the word for you, Steve. Bud |

Bud, would you say that ID plate was copper colored or brass? Sorry, couldn't help myself :-) Tim TD12524 |
TW Burchfield |
Tim, I think it takes a lot of brass to stamp your own ID plate with a changed engine number on it. But, one should at least try to repeat the OEM engine number configuration. Bud |

Hey Bud I was just kidding about the color. But you are right, it takes balls to modify/stamp an ID plate, especially doing a bad job of it. It's a felony in Ohio if you sell a car that you changed the VIN number on. Can the engine number be searched in any registers? Tim |
TW Burchfield |
Tim, engine number probably can be searched in registers. Just fooling around searching likely TD car numbers I found TD 24820 had engine number 25217, only 5 away from the one in question. TD 24820 came off the line in Feb. 1953. That engine would be a 1953 engine. It's clearly a replacement in a 1952 car that came off the line in Feb. of 1952. This is a good resource: http://www.tregister.org/search_prod.php BobbyG |

TD13769 came off of the line on Feb. 18, 1952 with Engine #14219. Bud |

Engine XPAG/TD2/25212 came off the line on Feb. 5, 1953, originally in car TD24802. I can't see the plate clearly enough; it looks like it could be 23212? Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Tom, the engine # is 25212. Bud

Aren't these plates originally a silver color which, when worn off by polishing, reveals the brass plate. When ever this plate was made it apparently was a long time ago. |
Gene Gillam |
Gene, this plate is probably a reproduction. The car has been off the road since about 1982. Bud |

OK, Bud, then my information above stands. Tom |

Latest report - the car was purchased from the last known NEMGTR owner. But, that was a long time ago. I've convinced the seller not to accept a bid of $4500 that someone offered. The person selling it for her figures that it's worth while waiting until after Labor Day when he and I can get a good look at the car. Stay tuned. Bud |
