MG TD TF 1500 - Did All British Radiators Have A Serial Number?
The original radiator on my TF has a brass tag on the top fan guard with Morris Motors and a serial number, was this common on all British cars of the period? Does the serial number have any significance? PJ |

It's just a manufacturer's serial number, not recorded by M.G. Most British radiators of the 50's and earlier that I've come across had one somewhere. |

Not necessarily just a manufacturer's number. On TFs, I seem to remember a date code reference. Radiators also had another patent brass plate on the core face itself. These are almost always missing with the exception of very well detailed, rebuilt cars. Cheers Rob Grantham |

Both of these items are available from FTFU. I have them in my garage 8 klm away so I can't take a pic. Apologies for my lack of communication as Outlook is still frozen and nobody is yet able to identify and resolve the issue. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Here is my TF radiator plate. ARG051 = Part number 412 = 195"4", December (12). 00448 = 448th one made that month. My car was built 26th Feb 1955 so it took about two months for this one to reach the assembly line. ![]() |

My car, owned by a doctor, was in an accident somewhere around 1958 to 1960 and possibly not the original radiator, even though there is no record of it being replaced when the car was repaired, as I have a lot shop and owner records since that period. I'll have to get the numbers off the plate to see if originality might be possible due to period of manufacture. The core has been replaced for more capacity, but the top and bottom tanks are original. PJ |
