MG TD TF 1500 - Dimensions of the belt

The belt is heavily battered and needs to be replaced. It has the approximate dimensions outer width = 0,59 inches, inner width = 0,3 and height 0,47 with 39 inches length.

I had measured the pulley of the dynamo and get to the approximate dimensions outer width = 0,63, inner width = 0,28 and height = 0,79 inches.

Since I have no idea how a V-belt must be correct (recessed, flush, protruding) inserted there are several belts as a substitute. For direct replacement there would probably be a high performance wedge belt according to US-Standard RMA / MPTA 5V / 15N with dimensions outer width = 0,59 , interior width = 0,29 and height 0,51 inches.

Because the belt is so much damaged my question is "Does the above mentioned belt really fit?"

What say the experts?

P.S.

I'm not a native speaker and therefor I ask for your indulgence.

Mr. Mueller, Pretty sure you want a Gates Green Stripe TR22392 17mm x 1010mm segmented belt. Make sure it's the segmented belt and set it at a loose 1" deflection. PJ

See http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/othertecharticles.html and go to the page for 'Keep your belts loose'. Dave DuBois has a number of excellent articles. In this one you'll find the dimensions of the belt. BTW, 22392 is the generic number. Bud

Thank you -

next stop in USA I'll purchase this item. Meanwhile my german dealer gave me an OPTIBELT B17 DIN 2215 / ISO 4184. It is not segmented.

What part of the U.S. do you travel to? If it's the BMW plant, I'd be pleased to buy you a NAPA belt and a beer or two. Jud

Mr. Mueller - One of the reasons that I wrote my article regarding the fan belts is that even though I ran the existing (non segmented) belt of the proper dimensions and kept it quite loose, I found that the rear bushing in the generator in our TD was still being worn prematurely. That is when I found that the belt should be segmented. My article specifies the Gates Green Strip belt, a friend wrote to me saying that there is a Goodyear belt that is segmented and works just as well, if not better than the Gates belt. If you are driving you TD at present with a non segmented fan belt, I am afraid that you will experience the same premature wear on the rear bushing of the generator. Please e-mail me at SUfuelpump@donobi.net, I think that we can work out something to get you the correct belt for your car without having to wait a trip to the SU. Cheers - Dave

Thank you Jud, thank you Dave,

yes I'm driving the car at present and an old dynamo will be refurbished because the present dynamo has no gear connection for the instrument. The dynamo will be back in two weeks and it would be a pitty if it will get in trouble.

My parts dealer investigates to be delivered by GATES Europe. We will see at monday.

Next stop in USA means, that my daughter will be able to catch a belt, because she is a flight attendant and some dealers send the goods to the hotel. But it must be just in time of her stop. So it is only possible if the stop is longer then 3 day. Yesterday she has been in Charlotte only for one day.

Greetings from the old world
