MG TD TF 1500 - direction of thread for the thermostat stud

I'd wanted install a thermostat, because so many of you recommended. One stud (#25 in the picture) of the manifold outlet , the studs where the thermostat is fastened, is worn. I must screw the stud out - but what is the right turn? The nut for fastening the thermostat is right turnable. If the whole stud has right turn I could buy tomorrow in a local shop. If it is special I have to purchase it via Internet and must wait.

Standard RT hand thread 8 X 1 mm

I think you may have a problem buying a suitable stud in a local shop. As Richard says you need a M8 x 1 but the ones that are now sold are almost always M8 x 1.25.

As a light hearted follow on how many left hand threads are there on a T Series. I can only think of the ones securing the hubs oh and also one on the adjustable connecting rod I have made for the clutch.

Thank you for eliminating my doubts.

In our town it is possible to buy 8x1 :-)

Left hand 8x1 mm on the engine torque link (I don't like to prefix with M as the threads are SI metric, not ISO metric).
If you have wire wheels, the knock-on spinners*** on one side will have LH threads.

Winfried,
If I were to replace that stud I would do it on the bench and not on the car. I would soak it in penetrating oil (not WD40) and it may require some additional heat to free it up.

Hello Declan,

glad to hear from you after trouble shooting.

Yes I removed the elbow and soaked it in automatic gear oil with aceton. I decided to purchase the studs not local because LERNER has the parts and it will be in my letterbox tomorrow. I hope to be able participating next weekend in the MG Event Bayern - see
