MG TD TF 1500 - Dismantling a really bad TD engine

This is an interesting 19 minute You Tube video of dismantling (very fast) a TD engine in really sad shape. Will it be salvageable?

I'd like to see it when the cylinders are bored out, maybe he will make another video compleating the engine. Interesting video, don't remember ever seeing an engine that bad. PJ

A single engine compilation with all the issues everyone has raised on this forum. Good thing that rod broke where it did instead of sending itself through the crankcase.

@ Rod Jones, Yes, you found the correct one. Thanks. I posted a question about the piston size and if the crank had already been turned down.

I bet the rod broke because the original-style pinch bolt had not been adequately torqued. The owner was lucky the rod did not punch out through the side of the block!

That is why modern usage demands the use of Allen cap-screws which can easily be properly torqued.

Ah the memories, my car sat for31 years. engine not only turned over but the damn thing started with a little help from ether. i broke the crank when i supercharged the engine. went with Crower modern rods and Venolia Pistons with a Moldex Crank runs like a charm to this day.My nephew owns it now and loves that car as much as I do.
