MG TD TF 1500 - Distributer rotation

Gents,
The title is for the archive but should read stupid is as stupid does. Of course referring to myself. After removing the distributer cap to clear the removal of the steering column the job went well. That is until the restart when the always reliable engine just backfired and could hardly idle. Two days of trouble shooting followed. Many checks of the firing order. 1,3,4,2 OK over and over again. Today I noted the arrow on the rotor showing anti-clockwise rotation. Not the same as 1,3,4,2 clockwise which is WRONG WRONG WRRONG. Hope this saves one of us old know-it-alls from two days of head scratching. Yes, you can all smile and tip one to celebrate my enlightenment.

Best regards,

First time I changed the plugs on my TR4 back in about 19734 I carefully reconnted the wires 1,2,3,4. It ran but not happily. We all have war stories. Jud.

It's interesting how the direction of rotation changes depending on your point of view. Turns one way from above & the other from below.. Still gets me when I'm on the wrong side of a bolt & I always have to stop & figure out how to loosen it. Cheers

Peter,

The confusion is due to your location south of the equator, don't ya know. Strangely it happens up here too.

Yeah Jim it's the down under thing..

The WSM manual ALWAYS quotes direction of rotation looking from BELOW the distributor. Perhaps the author was standing on his head? <grin>

I'll be checking this thread when I've reassembled and reinstalled the engine... the distributor is one area I really haven't read up on. I cleaned mine out as best as I could and it's ready to be put back in... just want to make sure I do it right!
