MG TD TF 1500 - Distributor Bob Weight Springs
As part of my battle to get the TF running smoothly I have asked a friend to look over the engine and see if he could identify any problems. He noted that when the rotor arm is rotated by hand the advance weight springs do not return it. I fitted new springs a few weeks ago. One was thicker than the other but I understand this is correct so that one takes over from the other as revs increase. We have dismantled the distributor and find that if the rotor arm is turned with the shaft locked the weights move outwards but the springs move in their slots and are not tensioned. This means I am running at max advance all the time. The manual does have a picture of the weights but it is pretty useless. Can anyone provide advice and possibly a picture showing the configuration of the weights, springs and the small connectors between the weights and springs. There are two holes and a slot in the connectors and I am uncertain which hole the pin on the weight fits in. Many thanks for the anticipated help Jan T |
