MG TD TF 1500 - Distributor Rebush

I am re-bushing my distributor and have a few questions.

Top Photo....The horizontal groove is for the shoulder bolt to hold the distributor in the engine block. The vertical groove and the hole at the arrow head appear to be for oil circulation.

I bought the two bushings in the Moss catalog (168-008) but when I look in my distributor there are three bushings. There is just enough room for the three to fit lengthwise. Am I correct in assuming it was put together wrong? Should there only be two bushings? One at top and one at bottom, leaving a space for oil circulation.

Bottom Photo...Are the spiral grooves to encourage oil flow up to the surface of the lower bushing?

Middle Photo...I don't have a need to take the top section apart so I may be missing something here. There is a through hole with some sort of a pin in it.
The pin does not go all the way through the hole.
The end of the pin I can see is smaller than the diameter of the hole and wiggles around a bit.
Can someone explain this area to me?
Shall I continue the disassembly?

TIA,
Mort

oil feed holes and spriral like you say to push oil. top one fed by hole under rotor. as to no of bushes, which number is your dizzy, one had 1 long bush, so maybe a prev owner filled the gap with three short bush to make a long one?

Mort your distributor should have 2 bushings The 1st image is of the improved method to keeping oil out of the upper distributor area where the points are, the second image is where the oil that is applied to the felt under the rotor helps lube the top bushing, but these bushings have all been oil impregnated for many years. the 3rd image is an Archimedes screw to keep the oil out of the distributor. I have rebuilt / re curved many of these distributors. call or E mail me before you replace the bushings.

Mort, I thought that you recently, in a thread about ignitions, said that you had changed distributors. Bud

Be vewy, vewy caweful not to loosen the body from the tube, as they are hard to pin down tightly then. It's a common problem, and I've probably thrown away a dozen of them in the past few years, because they have been damaged by owners who have tried to press or hammer in new bushings. The body must be fully supported with inserting the bushes, so there is pressure on the tube, not on the body.

Bud,
Here is the situation. I have the computerized ignition installed(123Ignition). I have a sporadic miss in the 2500-3000 RPM range. I have tried all sorts of advance curves to no avail. Before I blame it on the distributor or even the carburation I thought I would refurbish my old distributor and do nothing else but swap them out and see if that helps identify the problem.
We spent this past weekend at a car show in Lewes, DE and I put about 500 miles of back roads and turnpike on the TD. For my set up I got pretty good mileage(21-22 MPG) and the car ran well aside from that sporadic miss. Seems to run better when HOT!!

Tom, Thank you I will be careful and press the parts in uniformly.

Len, Thanks again. I will give you a call today or tomorrow.

Above in the second picture there was something in the top cross hole of the shaft. I managed to get it out. Actually there were three small dowel-like ceramic pins. I have no idea what they are or why they are there or how they got in there or what the DPO was thinking.
