MG TD TF 1500 - Drive in an MG
My TF is still down so I took the B out for a drive of about 225 miles yesterday into eastern Utah. Took a road I had never been on before. Nice drive but way too hot. Back to work on the TF tomorrow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8al5JgYLmA |

Nice video and a nice part of the country, LaVerne. When you left Moab and were following the Colorado River, was that Hwy 128? I took that route in my 77 MGB in the fall of 2012 on my way back home from Zion, but I only saw it in the dark. If it was 128, is there a road that continues along the river, or did you have to get back on I-70 near Cisco, UT? Here is a photo not too far from you. Does it look familiar? Charley ![]() |

The photo of the Westways was on the way to Zion. Here is a photo of the B tucked in there for the night. On the way back I stopped in, I believe, Gunnison, CO at about 3 in the morning for a coffee at a convenience/fuel store. It is a college town. While I was talking to the only other customer about is late 70s Benz, a student on a bicycle stopped in front of the B, and looked at it for a long time. He was outside, and we were inside watching him. After about a minute, the took a handkerchief out of his pocket and polished the emblem on the B, and then rode off. It was a nice touch. Yes it follows the Colorado river ( I don't even know the number) until you reach Cisco and then you have no choice but to return to I-70 for the last 50 miles home. I usually drive to Moab once or twice a year. The river road was just a dirt road when I was a kid and I remember riding with my grand parents stopping and waiting for the water flowing over the low spots to receded when it rained so we could pass. There used to be a couple of peach orchards along the river, but they have been torn out and now there are a couple of large guest ranches. On the way down we took a side road that I had never been on which took us up and over the LaSalle Mountains and then back into Moab. I don't recognize the Motel sign. Drove down there last year in the TF.

Any recommendations on places to stay in Moab (and Bryce and Zions)? We're flying to Salt Lake City and doing that loop in a rental car. We'll be meeting our parents and a couple from England in Moab and traveling with them to Bryce, although we're going on to Zions without them. They are going back through Colorado to do the Durango-Silverton railway, etc. We're complete newbies in Utah, etc., so we're struggling to find good places to stay... |

I didn't remember the highway number either, but I checked a map. I figured that must be the one. The Westways is a well preserved (or restored) motorcourt in Delta, CO on US 50. The sign says "Since 1946". I enjoyed it. Charley ![]() |

No recommendations on a hotel. I haven't spent the night in Moab in about 30 years and I think at that time we were camping. There are quite a few nice ones and they are building more. The town has emerged as quite a tourist center. Delta is a bout 50 miles south east of me... I think that place is right next to the Gunnison river. |

David, Moab has all the chain hotels as I remember. Just check Tripadvisor.com for reviews. Don't know when you're going but if it's soon, think "HOT"! It's a mountain biking mecca. Not much else there, imo. Ed |

David, The town that serves Zion, and has the hotels, is Springdale. I stayed at the Driftwood Lodge, and was happy with it. You can check them out online. http://www.driftwoodlodge.net/ Charley |
