MG TD TF 1500 - Driveshaft tunnel padding
On page 137 of his book, Horst Schach shows a rubber cushioning on the rails to support the driveshaft. That's clear, but he also shows a "thicker" pad "used directly over the frame supports." I can't see any reason why those pads should be thicker or even separate from the rubber used over the rails. Am I not understanding or anticipating something? Thanks in advance for any guidance... |

Perhaps they need to be thinner so that they will fit under the rear body tie bar (the sheet metal that the tunnel attaches to). Tim TD12524 |

Actually, it says the padding in that area should be thicker. Maybe to bring it up to the same level as the tie bar? |

I used builder's felt to make pads / shims between floorboards and rails in my TF. Doubled it up when necessary to make a flat surface between rails floorboards. I chose builders felt because I believe that water would wick away from it rather than being trapped in pockets in foam or rubber pad material. Am I right? I dunno. My car doesn't get wet frequently, so I think that I'm OK. Lonnie TF7211 |

I did the same as Lonnie, I doubled up where necessary when installing the floorboards as a lot of the supporst are on slightly different levels. I used a neoprene foam strip. Here in Tucson we get so little rain... |
