MG TD TF 1500 - Dynamator
So I noticed yesterday that the bolt on the side of my Dynamator was loose. I tried to tighten it with no success. So I removed it. It does not appear that the bolt has actually been threaded into anything. The hole is not threaded and the Dynamator works fine. So my question is...is this just a cosmetic bolt in order to make it look like the original generator? Does anyone know? If so I will just epoxy it back into place. Thanks in advance, Rich ![]() |

Rich, Had the same issue on two other Dynamators. Strictly cosmetic and fixed in a similar fashion. Frank |

That is the field pole screw. I believe it holds the field winding in place. You may want to pull the armature and see if the field coils fall out. |
Bruce Cunha |
I like Frank's answer better lol, but Bruce's cancels out Frank's answer. Anybody else? :) |

I took a dynamator apart and those screws just go into an empty space inside. They hold nothing. All the good stuff is forward of the screws. |

If it was a dynamo, then Bruce would have been right! Interesting that they've taken the visual replication of a dynamo to the extent of glueing in a screw. A dab of JB Weld should hold it it place. Is there a matching one on the other side? |

Peter there is one on the other side. It is nice and tight! I would have lost the bolt if it was not hanging on to the edge of the hole by a few threads. Thanks everyone, mostly you Frank! lol Rich |
