MG TD TF 1500 - Dynamo excess output
A friends car has an electronic regulator. Occasionally the charge rate goes full scale. De-clutch and let the revs drop till no charge, rev up and drive normally, problem solved till next time. The regulator when fitted to another car does not exhibit the same symptoms. Any suggestions appreciated, Ray TF 2884 |

Sticky/dirty points in the regulator. Clean them with some very fine grit emery paper. (with the battery disconnected, of course.) |

Hi Lew, it is solid state, no points. That is what is annoying.no bits to play with. Ray TF2884 |

might be a dicky battery, Sounds like you have another car available to you, maybe swap the batteries over for a try---- willy |

Some of the electronic regulators have been known to be defective right out of the box. Is there any adjustment on it? Can you put an ammeter downstream of the regulator to verify the output? |

Ray, One thing to check, Are both generators identical? You can do this by looking at the stamping on the body. the model number should be C39PV or C39PV-2. the part number should be 222XYZ where XYZ could be some combination of letters or numbers. John |

All conditions the same. It is starting to look like a regulator earth fault. This would cause the regulator not to read the output, leading to a runaway voltage. Ray TF2884 |
