MG TD TF 1500 - Early TD horns

Has anyone ever seen TC horns on early TD's? I know there were some carryover parts. That's what were on this car #TD2670,but I only see references to the bulbous black ones in the literature.

Thanks.

By the date of your car, I would have a hard time thinking there were still TC parts on the floor to use for the TD.

None of my factory pictures or pictures I did screen shots of from the Safety Fast video show anything but the round cover horn.

The original horn assemblies on the TD 1250. The only real carry over from the TC that jumps out at me is the grille shell with the crank opening and a few of the engine bits.

What is often overlooked is that in car plants, they would run out of parts and so wold fit what thy had. Or, the company got a better deal from another company and substitute the original.

Years ago there was heated argument amongst afficianados regarding what type of screws were fitted. There was wide difference each person claiming his car to be original. An old boy, who had worked at Abingdon intervened and said that they would run out of blt, screws and similar small items. To solve the problem the foreman would give an apprentice cash and send him down the local agricultural engineers and see what they had.

While I don't doubt that happened, I have to believe that Nuffield/MG had formal contracts with suppliers, and the use of such products was limited.

One might find a variant in a bolt head or a screw (if you could even identify the supplied screw vs the hardware screw on an MG), but that would be rare.

Did the factory use what was on the floor? Sure. My TD was built one week prior to the listed change from the two piece brake drum to the single piece brake drum.

The car has one two piece and one one piece drum on the rear. I am reasonably sure that they had a line of brake drums and used what was in the parts bin.

I know suppliers may have changed what they supplied. There are a few parts that changed during production that were not the same.

The tool box lid is one. Early TD's had a hinge with fingers on it. Later TD's had a piano hinge. Was that a change in supplier or did the supplier figure the piano hinge was less expensive?

Another interesting one I have found is the material used for the Body ID tag. In replating these, the majority are brass. But I have also found the occasional copper plate.

I figure the manufacturer used brass, but had a supply of copper plate that was used when their inventory of brass ran out.

The copper tags are slightly thinner and not as stiff.
