Is the dealer kidding? It's not April 1 yet! Boy, was HE ever taken to the cleaners! Re-painted in a non-original color, engine repainted and very probably rebuilt, replacement interior, wrong threshold plates, non-original bumper spacers and what appear to be re-pop bumpers, gas tank panels not properly painted, wrong fender-welting, replacement dash material, chrome radiator slats, etc, etc. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Looks to be sitting in front of a car dealership....that should say it all. If you point out all the BS to them I'm pretty sure you will get the " I'm just going by what the owner said to us" Ya right... Not even close to original in any way shape or form. Not beating car up....just saying the description is total fraud. |

That ain't clipper blue!!!! I love the patent plate, UP SIDE DOWN. what is up with the blue engine??? After a $$$ restoration, it would be a $23,000 car. Very do-able for a D.I Y. project. David |

I sent the guy a question on the car. no response so far. |

And only 8,043,000 easy miles. |

Too bad. If it had been repainted in true clipper blue and the firewall and engine done correctly, this would be a very nice car. Still not all that bad. I wonder what the reserve is? |

I sent him a message when it was first listed and told him while it was a nice car it was far from original. Here is his reply. Dear rel_iks, Thank you for your message. I am assisting an elderly lady who is one of the original owners sell this vehicle. It was difficult for her to decide on selling it since it represented to her many years of happy moments with her husband who passed away some time ago. The information in the listing came from her and she was quite clear about the details. Enthusiast of vintage vehicle tend to forget that factories and dealerships would customize any of their vehicles for an additional charge. Options were available..!!! Perhaps this is why it has a chrome grill...??? Who knows..??? in the course of 63 years much could have happened too...!!! Maybe the old guy woke up one morning and says, " Hey I want to paint the engine blue. ". vintage vehicles are representative of their history and it is original in that all it's factory components are still there. This is not a showroom car and no one is making that claim. I am attempting to help the lady sell her MG... NOT to question her information. Your criticisms and comments have been read but they do not represent facts only your opinion..!!! Regards - gtf-mkt |

The dealer makes one good point: "vintage vehicles are representative of their history and it is original in that all it's factory components are still there" True - and it could be sold as a car that has been altered, but can be restored to original faithfully. Then he lets the wheels get wobbly in closing: "Your criticisms and comments have been read but they do not represent facts only your opinion" Well, no ... it is a fact that the car has been altered and it's a fair guess that a blue engine was not a dealer option, nor the black firewall. As to the chrome grill, yes - quite possibly added by the dealer. I'm too young to have experienced it first hand but have read in several sources that dealers would swap out some parts to make the car look upgraded - in the case of TDs to make them look like Mark IIs. The upside down patent plate is a clear sign that it was removed and replaced - probably for the repaint. The paint chipping in that picture around the upper attachment of the radiator stay shows what appears to be Ivory paint underneath. But, as said above, it is not a bad car. Need pics of the underside to be able to say more, but it looks like it could fall into the $ 15,000 range as is. BobbyG |

Typical car salesman! They and politicians go to the same school! How can I screw up the facts and make people believe what I say for my benefit! LOL. PJ |

I'll bet a hundred bucks if you were trading in... say a 67 Shellby GT 500 with this guy and you laid on the claim that it was "all original with 8045 miles" and the engine was painted Chevy orange, body painted with a Maco industrial red, Chromed the grille, painted the threshold plates with some cold galvanizing and installed a reproduction interior ...he would be singing a different tune. I'll pretty much stand by what I said earlier. If nobody brought it to his attention he might get away with it. But since someone has...I'd say he has an obligation to check it out and correct his statements or risk being sued for fraud by an unsuspecting buyer. Just my two cents. |

Here is the reply that I got. Hello and thank you for your message. I am selling the MG for an elderly lady who after much thought came to the difficult decision to sell this beautiful vehicle that she shares with her husband who passed away. She provided much of the information from which we put together the listing ad. The MG IS ORIGINAL by the fact that all numbers match and it is in the same color combination inside and out as it was when first purchased. There are always upgrades available through the factory or the dealerships at the time as they are now. The evidence is a well maintained vehicle with little to do but take it out on the road and enjoy it. I have attached several photos so you can see variations on the clipper blue so you can see that there are dozens of MG-TD roadsters with chrome grills...!!! I was born in 1952 and for my 18th birthday my father bought me a 1952 MG-TD with a chrome grill..!!! It had been purchased in England and all original..!! Last year a beautiful ORIGINAL black MG-TD sold here on eBay for a very high amount and it had an original chrome grill..!!! I would imagine that MG sold very base vehicles as well as custom ordered ones. Money is the factor ..!!! It always is...!!! You can go on the internet and google images of 1952 MG-TDs and see the diversity of these cars. You must also consider the individuality and history of each car since that is more interesting that what came out of the factory...!!! Regards, GTF Since I have a Clipper blue 1951 TD, methinks that he may be wrong. I agree original car engine etc. but that Is not a Clipper Blue and the color of that car is not a factory color. it is a 15-18 car but is not correct. I thought the chrome grilles were only on some Mk 11's. |
