MG TD TF 1500 - Edd China Leaving Wheeler Dealers

Edd China has decided to leave the British car show, Wheeler Dealers. I'm sure many of you have seen the show in its early days in Great Britain and its most current version in California. It's one of the best "details" oriented TV shows out there that is not just one big pitch for the sponsors.

He made the announcement on his You Tube site.

I for one am sorry to see him leave.

They ruined it when they moved to California and by the sounds of Edd's youtube video I think it's going to become another one of the crap informercial shows that I don't watch.

I think the well had petty much run dry and the show had run it's course anyway.

I have to agree with Roy. This was one, if not the only programme, where they had to put their money where their mouth is and actually sell the repaired car. OK they didn't make much profit but far better than the independent evaluation that other programmes rely on. Also there was not one of the stupid time scales that producers appear to love.

There was one such programme where they started to restore a MGB open top and the one they finished was a tin top GT!

I watched the You Tube video yesterday...WD will probably last one more season, at that. Edd made Wheeler Dealers really stand out amongst the so-called reality auto shows. I always hoped they might to a TD or TF, but that was a little outside their envelope. That said, my favorite was the Morgan.

Good luck to Edd and look forward to finding him elsewhere soon.

I was in England last week visiting my father who is 94. We spent an awful lot of time watching Wheeler Dealers as it is one of his favourite shows. First time for me though and I was hooked!

I just sent Discovery Channel a not expressing my disdain.
Perhaps more should.

Jim, I agree. Just sent a note voicing my displeasure with where the show is heading. The last thing we need is another artificial deadline, personnel crisis driven car show. I don't mind product placement per se but when the focus on the products replace the automotive repair/restoration content then I turn the show off for good.

I posted on the Velocity facebook page. Told them that it was one of the better car shows specifically because it did give a lot of good information on the rebuilding of various parts.

I said that all their car shows were becoming all the same, and this one show was worth watching because of the shop time.

That is what took American Restoration off the air, they wanted more drama on the show and Rick Dale said no way. same guy owned that show as well.

Edd did the right thing. The time to go is when you are on top and realize the only way you are going to go is down. Much like your favorite song. After a while it gets old.

Edd also said in the YouTube chat, he wants to do other things. He is still a young man and if he does not pursue his ambitions, he will spend the rest of his life as many of us do saying, coulda woulda shoulda.

As far as Velocity TV goes, I hate the wailing guitar and pounding drums that drown out the speaker's oratory. The childish staged drama and bickering is much like fingernails across the blackboard.

Cheers

Edd has to get the record back for the world's fastest sofa! Similar deal on Fast and Loud- master mechanic Aaron Kaufman left for some of the same reasons. George
