MG TD TF 1500 - End of Vintage Mecha-Tronics

See https://www.vintagemecha-tronics.com/index.php

In my search for Control Box/Regulator help I tried to reach Vintage Mecha-Tronics, where Dave Ahrendt and Dean Sprague have been producing solid-state units for the past few years. The will be stopping sales as of March 1, 2022. See the attached image.

What a shame. Sorry about that, guys. Bud

I guess that I assumed that more folks were aware of Vintage Mecha-Tronics. That may be why they're closing up shop. You'd probably have to be an NEMGTR member to have learned about them.

About 20 years ago the late Bob Jeffers developed a technique for converting Control Box/Regulators into solid state devices. Unfortunately, Bob passed away a few years back. That ended the solid-state regulator world. About six years ago a couple of smart guys from NEMGTR, Dave Ahrendt and Dean Sprague, took up the challenge and began producing their Vintage Mecha-Tronics line of solid-state regulators. Unfortunately, that has come to an end.
I'm sending an old RB106/1, dated 3-52 to them today to get one of them. Bud

I bought one last fall, works a treat.

Bob Jeffers was going to convert one for me, but I procrastinated - one of my eternal failings.

In fact, I was waiting to convert my car to - ground, followed by conversion to an alternator; before opting for a solid state regulator. These, along with LED lamps all 'round, are all in my to-do bucket.

I guess I'll just have to practise at what I do best ... procrastinate a little longer!

Gord, you've got until March 1st to do it now. You know Dave Ahrendt. Give him a call. 407-765-2780 Bud

Thanks Bud, but I'm going to have to pass. I don't want to second-guess, but I imagine that a + ground regulator won't be the same as a - ground one; and maybe switching to an alternator will have an effect, too.

These improvements are definitely in the pipeline for later in 2022. For now, I have to wrestle with a small, but annoying problem I'm having with my new aluminium radiator. Gotta get that resolved for this driving season.

You're right, Gord. The solid state regulators, unlike the old ones, are polarity sensitive devices. However, the Dynamators don't need an external regulator. The positive ground ones just need an external relay. I think that the expensive ones are that way also. Bud
