MG TD TF 1500 - Engine side oil passage plugs
I noted that the plugs going into the oil gallery on the side of my TD motor are sticking out a bit. All seem to be about the same length out. Is this a shouldered bolt? Should these be in farther? Does anyone have a picture of theirs? ![]() |

Bruce, all my XPAG blocks have a screw slot on them and sit flush with the block. Don |

Bruce the hole/ bolt is tapered. What you see is entirely normal. |

Hi Bruce, I have never seen any of these plugs go "right home" until the head touches the block. I agree with Bill (W A) in that they are tapered. I seal them with a thread sealer when I assemble an engine. Your image appears as if there is no leakage (and a lot of paint cover). I would think there is no cause for concern. Bob |

Don, You may be referring to the plugs at either end of the long oil gallery. On my engine these were flush and slotted. One was brass (see photo), and I think the other was steel. Regards, Michael ![]() |

One slotted plug to check is at the back end of the head under the plate. Any looseness here puts oil in the coolant and vice versa. The original gaskets covered this plug but new ones do not. Ray TF 2884 |

You are correct Michael, too eager to chuck my 'tuppence'worth in. Don |

Thanks. There appears to be a seal of some sort on these. I did not build this motor, so I just wanted to clarify this is the way they go. |
