MG TD TF 1500 - Engine stabilizer bracket 2

As you can see from the photo this has broken before.

Does anyone have an improved bracket?

Does anyone have one that is stronger or easier to replace?

Thanks,
Mort

original bracket, one arm longer, radius to the bend is less likely to fracture also I would guess.

if you replace the bolts with studs, then you can remove the pump without removing the rad.

I have to say Mort.
I have never broken one of these.
Was yours a replacement - Modern Repro?
I don't have a supercharger but that in itself should not brake the bracket, surly?
Like Mog says, a radios on the bend and possibly heat treat the thing to remove any stress from manufacture might help. Using studs instead of bolts is also a great idea.
I just cannot think how that broke (twice)?

Rod.

On re-install remember to just take up the slack. Don't try to tighten to solve any alignment problems. But of course you already knew that.

Jacking up the engine (in an earlier life Mort) without removing the stabilizer may have weakened & caused the bracket to subsequently fracture. Improving access has to be worth doing & keeping the bar stress free should also ensure longevity. Cheers

Mort,
I might have your car mixed up with another,, but wasn't your engine ot rad missaligned when you got it a long time ago???

Over the years I have replaced a half-dozen of these. It seems to me that the causes have been either worn-out rubber grommets, causing the engine to shake, rattle and roll excessively, or mis-adjustment of the rod, causing stress on the rod. It's not there to adjust the position of the engine, but rather to steady the engine once it is in place.

Something as little as a settled or soft engine mount can cause engine to move or shake enough for the stress to snap the bracket.

I had the same problem. 'The Archives' suggested running some extra weld down the inside of the flange to strengthen it.

I have that done and it is still intact - but to be fair not a lot of mileage since.
