MG TD TF 1500 - Engine Started First time in a year+
Got the dash in with all the fixtures including new glove boxes, so I could start the engine again after setting idle for over a year. I rebuilt the carbs, plus a few other things. Put some gas in the tank, turned the pump on and checked for leaks, none! Carbs filled up, no leaks there either. Put the distributor back in with new points, but kept the old condenser. Pulled the choke, pulled the start cable and I don't believe it made a full revolution and started. That was a relief! 55 lbs oil pressure at 1000 RPMs and idles as smooth as silk! Good to see the end of the tunnel getting closer after over 5 years. Now the wait is on for my side curtain frames to get here. Backordered and probably another month wait! Such is life. PJ |

Good Job PJ !! Just hope that the light you see at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming Freight Train !!!!!!!!!!!!! SPW |

Neat! Now for a test drive? |

Hey Paul No worries, that freight train is in my tunnel !!! Good one Steve Cheers Bill Chasser jr TD4834 |

Now for a test drive! That's a problem, the seats are out and I'm re upholstering them. Could nail down a lawn chair, as someone suggested earlier, LOL. I haven't driven the car in over 5 years, so I am a little anxious to get it on the road again. Seats are holding that up for the time being. PJ |

WE DON'T NEED NO DAMN SEATS !!! I couldn't wait to install the seat in the rebuild of my 75 CJ-5,, A couple of timber blocks worked jus' fine!!!![]() |

Paul, Congrats on the clean start-up. My PO lost my side curtains prior to 2002. Take it from me, you can still take a ride when the notion strikes you. Enjoy! Jim Haskins 1953 TD |

Jim, I'm not waiting on the side curtains or top to test drive it, but I might throw the drivers seat in, which is still together for now, the passenger seat is getting covered first and is in pieces now. We'll see. Waiting for a double wire light socket from Hugh, should be here tomorrow, hopefully. PJ |

Isn't that a great feeling, Paul. Had that experience a couple of years ago with 'the53'. Bud |

There are ways around the seat deal as Steve mentioned.

First pull of the starter ... great job! Don't wait for everything to look pretty before taking a test ride. Bolt in your old crappy seat and go. I waited until I installed new floorboards and new carpet before test driving my TF after repairing the gearbox. Noises inside tell me that I'll need to remove the gearbox again. That means I'll also need to remove my new floorboards and new carpet. I enjoy following your reports on the build. Lonnie TF7211 |
