MG TD TF 1500 - Ever wonder where the term 'windscreen came from?

Here ya go.

L E D LaVerne

:-)

There must have been some huge bugs in that area. :-)
Christopher Couper

It was probably intended to protect from lumps of concrete. The Brooklands track had very steep banking cast in concrete sections. I cycled there in the 1960's, climbed the banking and walked on the track, and even then it was pretty rough. Some of it is still there.

Awesome! Cool that it raced a few miles down US 27 from me. George

Another innovation.

Timothy Burchfield

I wonder what percentage of their audience got the Carrozzeria Pininfarina reference in that Timothy?
M Magilton

Not sure but a quite a few Americans would probably pronounce the real company that way. :-)

That car is a well-documented Triple M MG. It was so special, it was assigned a separate grouping in the Triple M Register as an M12/12 type. This is chassis 2M2273 and belongs to Jack Kahler of Littleton CO.

Jack has several nice Triple M MGs including a supercharged PA which he fastidiously rebuilt, and I bough the original tub from him for my PA restoration.

I've seen this lovely M-Tyoe several times, including in Reno NV in 2012, when I met LaVerne - picture attached.

Don't laugh, the factory actually did make them, although they weren't called windscreens. ;) Here's a real one...

And here's the same car at MG2001 with Jim Simpson (50 year MG Factory worker)

And the Same Jim Simpson, 70 years earlier with the lineup of the 12/12 cars just before heading fro the Brooklands race. Jim is third from the right in the front row.

Great Pic, Steve.

What else can you tell us about it?

Hi Gord, the photo is of Dick Seaman in one of the seven factory MG NE cars in 1935. They were produced for the 1934 season to replace the K3, which could no longer compete due to a ban on superchargers. Seems the venerable K3 had won too many races and the big boys with their Bentleys were complaining. Note the wireless communication system he's testing in this photo.
Steve Simmons

Yup - great pic. I've seen Pete Thelander's NE in action, and its bloody fast, even by today's standards.

Strangely, on my list of the 7 NEs, Dick Seaman is not credited to any of the present cars.

Dick piloted 0517 at the RAC TT in Belfast. If you're interested in the NE cars and don't have it already, I highly recommend obtaining a copy of Pete's book. I believe he has sold out and I just sold the only extra copy I knew of a few days ago, but you can probably have Pete put you on a waiting list in case more become available in the future.

I've driven Pete's car a couple times, which is really more like torture than anything else because it makes me want to own one!
