MG TD TF 1500 - Exhaust questions
53 TD, stock engine. My exhaust goes from one pipe to a first muffler. It exits as 2, 1 1/4" pipes and enters another muffler. It exits as 2, 1 1/4" pipes and runs out the back. I know this configuration isn't original. I wonder if I might pick up a little ooomph without so much muffler/pipe to push through. Also.... I miss the 'crackle' I used to get in my MGB. Moss has a SS system with hardware for about $400.00. Is there something better out there? |

Having 2 pipes theoretically should be better for flow, not worse (just more square area). I can't imagine switching to one pipe will make a significant difference. I've seen a variety of SS systems out there all comparable to Moss in price, but can't comment - I'm sure others will. I just use the rusty pipe that came with the car. I did replace the tail section of the pipe because someone had squashed it, though :) |

I put a Falcon stainless system on our 72 MGB in 2005 and it looks and sounds wonderful today. Because of this, I opted to install a Falcon stainless system on the TF and really like it also. Just sayin. PJ |

Moss is showing Falcon for $299.95 but as N/A for the TD & TF. |

Andrus. I have the moss tourist trophy exhaust system but haven't run it yet as you know. It comes highly polished front to back. Beautiful to look at. Have no idea what it sounds like. Seems to fit the car very well though I didn't compare it to the remnants of my original system which I plan to keep. I'm saving every original piece off the car for further preservation. |

W.A. I wish you weren't so far away. I'd love to see the finished product. I'll need something soon. My exhaust is definitely a replacement, likely from the 70's and is terribly rusted. It's just a matter of time before I drive home with part of it on the seat next to me. ...... |

Mandrus,,, Now you are you again,,, who did you do it ???? |
Steve Wincze |
You mean - how? I selected 'customize' at the top of this area and re-entered my info and re-chose the way I wanted it to look. When I joined the forum, I just left the defaults alone so this area was new to me. How it got wiped.... I dunno. .... |
