MG TD TF 1500 - extractor manifold on a supercharged XPAG engine
I have heard that using a extractor manifold on a supercharged xpag engine does not give you anywhere near the h.p. gain that you get with carburetors. Anyone here have a opinion 1 way or the other? THANKS MUCH MICHAEL. |

??? Extractors on supercharged engine versus carburetors on a supercharged engine? ? |

Yes that is my question, THANKS MICHAEL. |

Carburetors as in plural? Many? Or carburetor? As in singular? One? |

Pg Gilvary. no many many carburetors as in 6. MICHAEL |

If you are asking if the benefits of an extractor manifold are greater on a carburated engine than on a supercharged engine, I don't see why that would be the case. The tuned, equal lengths and smooth curves of an extractor manifold will always remove exhaust equally, no matter what you may have on the intake side of the engine.
If you were to use a street cam in a supercharged engine I can see how the greater cam overlap would result in the loss of some un-burned mixture out the exhaust. But that more gradual closing of the exhaust valve has everything to do with the cam, and nothing to do with the extractor. If you had a roller cam designed for a supercharger (like Len Fanelli's) you would have a steeper ramp and faster valve closing time, so your engine would be a bit more efficient by capturing that mixture. When you ask questions like this please give some background context so we can understand what you are really getting at - the why is just as necessary to know as the how. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

To anyone reading this posting Steve Baker said that when rolling road race cars at Peter Burgess's shop in England the increase in h.p. was very slight when using a extractor manifold with a supercharger as compared to a naturally aspirated engine. In his opinion using his words [ replacing the pea shooter tail pipe to 1.75 in diameter" gave more of a h.p. increase]. thanks MICHAEL. I'am adding Len Fanellis roller cam. |
