MG TD TF 1500 - Felt washer vetween water pum pulley and Pump


I am cleaning up parts prior to painting and reassembly after water pump and radiator replacement.

I find a felt washer between the pump and pulley that I never knew about.

I don't find a replacement at AS, Moss or FTFU.

I think I have a bit of white felt left from the tool box. Certainly black from the side curtain box. I could make one.

This is a re-manufactured original style pup with new seals and bearings and a 6 blade bronze pump. Do I even need this?

Its original purpose was two fold---1. Helped keep grease from being slung out at the pulley area and 2. helps keep dirt out of the bearing. However, if your new pump has sealed/ shielded bearings the felt washer is less essential. The thickness was similar to the tool box felt so one would be easy to cut out.

I only found enough felt for 4 or 5 pieces.

Took a lot more effort than I wanted.
I had enough felt for 4 tries.
2 were no good. One is acceptable on one is very good.
I am using the acceptable. Bruce send me your address and I will post the good one.

Top 1/2" hard plastic

Middle Left ID punch, spring to keep things together, OD punch.
Bottom ID core, good washer, Original washer, remanent.

I had these made in Melbourne from Australian wool when I restored my pump. The company provided three density options. Cheers
