MG TD TF 1500 - Fitting main bearings
In the process of fitting new main bearings in my TC. Whilst the middle and front "push in" 95% using thumbs and set nicely with a slight tap with a rubber hammer there is no way the rear one will go in. The width of the block housing is 2mm wider than the inner width (between the flanges). So how do you deal with this please. I would also comment that the old back mains are the same. They came out but also wont go in!!! The block has just been rebored but surely it is illogical to think that this has effected it. |

Are you sure you aren't switching the front and rear shells? George |

Sounds to me as if you are trying to fit the center bearing to the rear. Pictures are always helpful.

Definitely trying to fit centre bearing to rear.See fig A22 in WSM part no 21 The thrust is taken by the centre bearing which is supplied oversize lengthways and must be scraped/emery papered till it fits into the crank with the correct clearance. Not like the plllock who ground the clearance into my spare crank. Ray TF 2884 |

Why do we get old and forget!!! In my defence it has been both a long time since I've taken the old ones out and even longer since I did the last complete rebuild. Thanks for pointing out my stupid mistake. I'll put the big hammer away again. I would add that if I'd checked back on all the pictures taken during disassembly I'd have seen my error. |

don't put the big hammer away, you may never find it again. I keep putting things in safe places (wherever THEY are. Ray TF 2884 |

Bit like things you know you've got but can't find until you've bought their replacement!!! |
