MG TD TF 1500 - Fixing door handles to my TF

Hi
Quick question the tub I got built by Hutson has holes drilled for door handles but although the square bar fits through the spring loaded larger end does not.
I guess I need to make the hole larger.
What is the idea of the spring loaded end on the exterior handle for.
Thanks Darryl

Anti-rattle device I'm guessing.

The inner end of the chrome handle part is a male taper, the mounting plate matching female. The spring/washer pulls the two together for a snug fit that won't wobble or rattle as Matt says. George

PS- This arrangement is a little ball and socket like, which allows some rotation so the square shaft can passively center in the drive socket.

Thanks Guys so my understanding then is that the anti rattle spring device on the outer handle should sit inside the door and possibly even touch the inner lock.
And therefore I should be drilling out my hole to make it wider to accept the full mechanism.
Amy hints for drilling a hole slightly wider....

Darryl, if you have to enlarge a hole, a step drill will work well. Such as photo, plus you can even get them larger.

Thanks Paul..a tool for every occasion. I was going to fill the current hole with a down and redrill. But will look at getting my hands on one of these.
