MG TD TF 1500 - Float Bowl Gasket
Hello, On my TF 1500, I have some fuel leaking from the gap between the cover and bowl of the float bowl on both carbs. I have purchased replacement gaskets and am asking if I should apply some gasket sealer when I reassemble the float bowls? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Tim |

No, it should not be necessary and is not a place that I have ever experienced a leak from. Are the floats set at the correct height? Dave H |

If the gaskets don’t fit correctly a quick dip in water and tamp dry will not only swell the paper a bit but it will also have some give when you tighten down the top bolt. But I have never had a need to goop them. Bill Chasser TD-4834 |

Take the top off the float bowl and make sure the top of the float is a good 1/4" above the fuel. If the gas appears close to the top of the float, pull it out and shake it; listen/feel for fluid sloshing around in it. Could be a touch "water logged." It can happen. Might need draining and soldering. ![]() |

Once those old brass floats start to leak its best to replace them, as they tend to microcrack all over the place. Dave H |

Thank you for the suggestions. Damp gasket went on easily and the floats were above the gas level and solid. Happy MGing! |
