MG TD TF 1500 - Floor Board Screw Head Types
Once again we are faced with the age old question: Slotted or Phillips head? This time on the floor board machine screws. Please weigh in if you have slotted or phillips and TD/TF and car number. |

Sounds like TF's have Phillips and TD's slotted. Like to here from some very late 53 TD's to see if there was some overlap. |
Christopher Couper |
They are slotted at least as late as December '52 on TD 23004. Joe |

Distant memory had TF 7614 with Philips with pointed ends for the short screws for the tranny cover. Not sure about the remainder. George |

TF 8353,born on December,17,1954 has Phillips screws, pretty much everywhere. PJ |

I don't know if this is the case for the TF, but most British cars with 'phillips' screws are actually posidrive. Look for the 'cross' pattern etched into the top at 45° angle to the screw bit cross. TDs were definitely all slotted. Warmly, Dave |

All slotted TD-4834 TD/c-8151 TD/c-16920 TD-19408 TD-24060. |

Pozidrive came out long after the TF was produced. Sometime in the 60's I believe. The TF had just the "regular" phillips head style. This issue does come up if doing a period correct restoration since replacement screws are mostly all pozidrive. Frank TF1414 |

Bill: Does TD-24060 have the car plate attached to the toolbox lid? I would definitely like to here from one of those cars. |
Christopher Couper |
Chris, I don't know if this helps but this is TD25009. Jud

JK: From my notes the cut over is around 26000 but I have not been able to pin it down tighter yet. But even still there was no hard cutover for changes around this time and I suspect a lot of the very late changes in the TD happened sporadically at the end of production, not a particular car number. |
