MG TD TF 1500 - Floorboards?

Do they fit over the top of the transmission tunnel flanges or underneath. Thanks.

Above the tunnel but the gear box cover goes on top of the floorboards, and the gearbox rubber goes over the gearbox cover.
PS the tunnel cover is screwed into place before the boards are fitted.

Got it! Thanks!

And there is felt between the tunnel cover and it's frame members.
Christopher Couper

Chris. Can you clarify that? Are you talking about the angle iron brackets on either side of the transmission that the floors sit on?
Bruce Cunha

Yes on the angle brackets.

Would it not be better to use thin strips of rubber in lieu of the felt? It's never seen, is moisture resistant, compressible, long lasting and does the same job of keeping the surfaces separate. I don't see a downside. Cheers

I see strips of rubber up to 6” wide on Amazon, found 1” x 10’ for under $20. I think that would work better. It was available in different thickness.

I saw .187”, thought that would work, punch 3/8” holes at bolt holes was my thought.

Currently searching for suitable underlay to glue to upper surface of floorboards with cuts to accommodate the gearbox cover figment.

Sourcing rubber here is really easy. Clarke rubber have a huge variety in all profiles, lengths, widths etc. Cheers

Rubber is probably OK. My only issue with it is that it does not breath. So if moisture get under it then it can become trapped and cause rust.

Sure moisture will probably enter easier with felt but it can leave easier too.
Christopher Couper

I agree with Christopher Cooper. I would use felt as it can breath. Rubber is a moisture trap.

A bead of silicon between the metal and the rubber solves the rusting issue. Something like Selleys All Clear would be ideal. Cheers

True enough. Be sure to use the right rubber. I would recommend Viton shore grade 70.

Declan,

Looking at rubber strips here, I see 3 shore scales, I am seeing 65A, looks to be harder than shore 70 on the 00 scale?

Peter,
The higher the number the harder the rubber.
70 is normal for most applications. When I did the experiments on the suspension bushes I found 70 to be about right and matches the original rubber (which fall apart). My side cover and rocker cover seals are all 70° shore.
