MG TD TF 1500 - Florida friends..

Hey guys...I've got two empty bedrooms (not counting car parts) if you need some place cheap (free) to run to. It's not the closest but if I can make it to GOF South you can make it to Mississippi. Email works so let me know.

If you don't come visit, just know that you'll all be in our thoughts so get back on here as soon as possible and let us know you're okay!

Good luck!

You're a good man Gene.

Thanks Gene. Since we are in the middle of the state we are staying. Pretty much limited gasoline/water and roads out of state jammed so may as well so might as well. Went through three in '04 so we are ready. George

Thanks Gene,

I'm sure that Classic MG Club members will be calling each other during and after the storm to help.

Irma's projected path is directly over our house in downtown Orlando. Hurricane Charley also passed over our house in 2004. The damage took two years of full-time contractor work to repair and restore. Pretty much the same thing that you guys go through every year in Mississippi.

Thanks Gene,
You are a good soul sir.
There are two of us down here in Port Charlotte and it looks like we are in for a blow.
Greg is hunkering down in his block house and I have got our place all shuttered up for the wind. We are 18 feet above the canal out back and the sea is 6 miles away. The chap that built this house lives just down the road from us and he lived in this house through Hurricane Charlie in 2004 and had no issues. So we are
both staying and hoping for the best. News gets a little more desperate by the hour but you know how the weather man often gets things wrong - and I'm hoping he has it wrong again. Still taking precautions though and the house and yard are all buttoned up tight. We would need a 18 foot flood to get to us and the MG. Hope everyone else down here is prepared, it is going to be a doozy.

Haveing been a Property Insurance Adjuster and who has worked in the aftermath of Hugo,Andrew and Floyd along with two others, If I was in the path, I would get the hell out. Andrew hit Homestead with 215 MPH winds and there was literaly nothing left in Homestead, Naraga Lakes and FLorida city. Houses gone. trailer homes gone, business gone. Weeks with out power. Debris everywhere, Anyone remember MT. Trashmore?? Life is short, dont make it shorter.JMHO

Fortunately, President Trump will help rebuilding what needs to be...

Wow, rough night. Amazingly still have flickering power- still gusting to 58mph. Way worse wind speed and duration than hurricane Charlie starting about midnight. Truly sounds like a rumbly freight train or jet engine at run up. Deep crap/branches all over yard, house good. Worried about my office. Power flashes and resulting hum/buzz are cool in a perverse way, reminded me of Lucas....haha. TD is snug and good. I think the whole state has massive destruction. George

Glad you're OK George.

Jo Ann and I are tired, but OK. No power. Roof damage from big oak limbs. GOOD NEWS ... TF and '54 Chev PU are unscathed!

George, Lonnie, thanks for checking in...great to hear you're both in reasonably good shape after going thru that.

The wife and I were setting out on our deck, admiring the beautiful weather, when the wife said, it's hard to imagine just how the folks in Florida are going through such a traumatic experience. Kinda put a damper on the weather were having. We hope everyone there comes through this with no bodily harm. Devastating to be sure, we could only imagine. Americans are a tough bunch, proven over the years, they will rebuild and put their lives back in order, no doubt about it. My biggest concern is the elderly, who can not care for themselves and must depend on others to keep them safe from harm. Our prayers are with all Floridans. PJ

I say the same thing when I hear about tornados in your neck of the woods. Both are bad.

Gene That was an MG type offer.
Our daughter's home in Naples received a direct hit./strangely only screen on pool enclosure torn along with a palm tree resting 12"above her roof. She spent the week here and wee too had very little damage as the storm turned to the east and missed us.She hs no power if its like the last one it will be 10 days or more .
strangly enough last wednesday I ended up in hospital with a LUCAS DISTRIBUTOR (pacemaker) glad to be home and on the computer with good friends.

Sandy,

Everyone I've been able to contact so far has come thru in reasonable shape with the exception of Lonnie. I know saying it like that minimizes the the problems y'all are going thru but I so glad it wasn't even worse.

This was our back yard in the morning. Sustained wind over 80mph for 2-3 hours, with gusts to 100. All cleaned up now. Over half of area still no power.

George Butz

Glad everyone is OK down south. Thank the stars it did not roll in like Andrew at cAT 5.

Dodged a bullet. We're in Tampa Bay, (Palm Harbor) and Irma came through at a Category 1. Had a lot of tree debris, no real damage. The storm surge (potential flooding) came a bit uncomfortably close, but that too passed us by.

Lost power for 2 days and internet, phone and TV for 2 days. The latter just came back. Some of our friends on the next street over are still without power after 4 days now.

Looks like we'll have some overnight guests. Very thankful we are able to extend the open house.

Cheers

Glad you avoided the worst of it, Gary and I'm sure your friends and neighbors are appreciating your open house.

Just got power on tonight and the wife is back to normal :)
Phone came on two days ago and we had no damage to the house. The yard was a mess but after 3 days of cleaning up is about as good as it will get.
The projected Storm surge did not materialize this far inland and the 3 foot rise in the canal was due to all the rain received. Sunday was a bit of a scary day and night - but the eye wall missed us by a whisker to the east. Just glad it was not as bad as the media led us to believe. We did remarkably well and the MG totally untouched. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the folks further south of here who are in the real mess and got hit hard. One thing we found out - Our generator we brought down from Maine is to small for this house. Will need to invest in a better one sometime soon Hurricane season goes on till November.....
