Bill Chasser is locked out of this site. Can you correct that? Do you need further info?

I was knocked off of the BBS last Thurs or Fri night. Mile Plumstead sent me info about the cause and told me how to get back on.

What was the reason?

LaVerne -

Here's what Mike said,

"We found your access code on Google which means people can follow the link and be logged into the BBS as you.
It means your account is compromised and you will need to re-register please. Your username and password are
OK and can be reused."

"Please restart here: http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgcars&mode=register "

Don't really understand what it means. I may have sent someone a link to a message in the archives, which may have had my access code in the address line(?) Possibly screwed things up when he clicked on the link. I dunno.

I re-registered on the link that he included. I bookmarked the new address after I registered.

LaVerne, I'm just curious. Wasn't Bill Chasser's problem he mentioned on FB with a Spitfire forum? This site is only for MG's. Or does Mike Plubstead run a Spit site somewhere as well?

I think the problem is that in the past, when we give people links to this site, they actually contained our username and password in the link (not a good idea for a bbs in general, but that's the way this bbs handled authentication.) If you gave someone a link, or pasted it on another board or site, that link may get crawled by the search engines and then is searchable. You really don't want that happening.
Looking at the links now, I don't see that information included in the query string, so I think it's a security issue that has been fixed (?).
