MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel pump again
Hi all Still fiddling with the fuelpumps for my TD mkII. I've come across a couple of used pumps but not quite sure what type they are. They are AUA25 but I believe this pump comes in both a low pressure and a high pressure version. How do I see if I've got low or high pressure versions? And will it be a problem to run high pressure version when the pumps are installed on the firewall? And finally, are the inner parts the same for both versions? thanks in advance Torben |

High pressure pumps used I. The forward position will/can overwhelm the floats resistance which will cause flooding. “High” pressure pumps are used at the rear to overcome fluid volume loss due to friction. |

Torbin,
The easiest way to tell visually wether you have a "high pressure" pump or low CAN BE the length of the solenoid housing, HP is longer. Look on the solenoid casting for the letters HP. Red end cap, and if your lucky the original tag attached to the ground screw. The diaphram rod length is longer, and the spring has a higher tension. The spring is what gives the higher pressure. High pressure pumps were used on six cylinder, and the austin "B" series engines where pump was located in the trunk . Such as in the ZA Magnette. .. CR |

An AUA25 is low pressure. |

Early TFs had the low pressure pump. Tthe later, majority of TFs had the high pressure pump located on a chassis bracket at the rear , right hand side of the car. Rob Grantham |

Hello Finally came to take my fuelpump apart. However, I Iexpierience problems when trying to remove the old returnvalve seat from the alloy part. The spring and the outer brass disk is easily removed, but the seat itself seems to be stuck. Is there a trick to get this brass seat out? rgds Torben |

Remove the cap and filter from the opposite end of the alloy base. Then using a soft material such as a wooden dowel, through the filter cavity, gently tap the valve cage loose. It's probably stuck on the thin washer. You'll likely need to replace all the washers as they are not meant to be reused. |
