MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel Tank Angle Bracket bolts
With nothing for me to do on my Y Tourer, I am getting back into putting my TD tub together. Something I have attempted a few times over the 45 years, I have had the TD. This time it will finish it.
Holes in the Fuel Tank angle brackets are suitable for 3/16" bolts, but the list "TD Body Nuts & Bolts" I have, states "Gas tank mount angle ...... 5/16 x 3/4 BSF .... 8 (per car)" The attached photos from Dave Braun's website, appear to show Phillips Head machine screws into Tee nuts, which I like the look of. Can someone tell me what is the correct method for attaching the Fuel Tank Angle brackets to the rear timber ply sheet. TIA & stay safe & healthy Stuart ![]() |

Mr. Ducan:
On my 1952 TD (16504) - each bracket is attached by 4 hex-head machine screws / bolts - 3/16 X 32 BSF threads (at least that is the size of the tap that I can screw into the tee-nuts into which these screws attach) - 5/8" long (i.e. the length of the screw from under the head to the end of the thread). The threaded part goes from directly under the head to the end of the screw / bolt. These screws go into tee-nuts attached on the inside of the tub. These tee-nuts have a circular flange (top of the "T") and each one is attached by 3 small / short nails / tacks to the plywood on the inside of the tub. I can take a picture of them if you would like and include it in follow-up post. Hope this helps. Charlie King ('52 TD - 16504) |

They are not 5/16 x3/4. They are originally round head slot machine screws. I believe 2 BA. I obtained the T nuts and screws from FTFU here in the states. |

2BA x 5/8" hex head with spring washers into captive T nuts. I need to get Bruce Cunhas added items into the nuts/bolts list. :-) |

2BA x 5/8 is correct. But mine were hex head. As there are 8, I would not think they changed them from round head slot screws. So if round head slot are on others, it could be another of those factory changes we deal with. If others have round head slotted machine screws, I will add these to the nut and bolt list. They are also marked Bees, which is a bolt company used on the TD ![]() |

Mine are hex head and never changed. Late 52 car. |

Bruce. All five of my TDs have 2BA slotted roundhead machine screws originally. Chris is correct. Bruce and I spent several days at my house using several of my cars for the his hardware compilation but I have not reviewed his updated lists. Chris, please keep Dave’s original effort intact as it does provide the markings on some of the bolts. I can further add to that list if you desire once I get dads car completed. I plan to send another batch of original hardware to be cad plated soon. |

Bill. Sounds like another of those 'use what the had issues".Chris is saying hex head. I will post on the other site to get more input |

Bruce I’ll take another look at 19408 tomorrow which you had looked at. I know 4834 had screws when I took it apart. I don’t see any 2 BA hex head bolts in any of my bins. But now you got me scratching my head on this. I’ll also go through my picture archives of all five cars to see if I have pics specific to the wedges on the back board. |

My TF has 2BA x 5/8 hex head Just thought I would throw this in the mix. Cheers John |
