MG TD TF 1500 - Fuses in TF1500
I put in 2 new fuses in my TF1500 and think I might have done it incorrectly. Now the engine will not turn off, even with the key out. Can somebody please post a photo of how the fuses should look in the holders. |

That's not an uncommon happening. You'll find that you have put a fuse in the space that is supposed to be between the fuses. Doing so connects the live 12 volt line to the line of white wires that becomes 'hot' when the ignition switch is turned on. The image below is from my TD, but I think it's the same fuseblock. Notice the heavy brown wire at the top right side. That is tied directly to the battery. It's connected to the top battery clip. The white wires at the top left of the fuseblock are the wires that become 'hot' when the key is turned on. They are connected to the left side battery clip. You have placed a fuse so that it is clipped between the left and right fuse clips.
This is also a clever way of starting up one of our cars when you've lost the key. Bud ![]() |

A peg was moulded into the later fuse holders to prevent this happening. As you say Bud, a very useful method of getting round mislayed keys. Ray TF 2884 |

Yep. My go to method to take the car out when my parents were not around and I was on restriction with the key taken away. :-) |

Is this correct for TF?

Hi Matt., No ! What a mess ! Cheers Rob Grantham |

Looks OK to me Matthew although the bolts look a little undersized. If you're interested in protecting the wiring and the car though, these would probably be better. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

Thanks everyone. I have fixed the problem, just like you said, I put the fuse in the centre space instead of the 2 outside slots. Rookie error!! |
