MG TD TF 1500 - Gasoline availability
Reading about negotiations between the UAW and GM, the article said the real sticking point is the transition to electric vehicles. How much longer do you think gasoline will be readily available? Regards, Tom |

I suspect you will be able to get gasoline in some form for way longer than all of us will be alive. Over the next 10-20 years the supply will lesson and it will be harder to find, but by no means impossible. I have an EV for my regular driver and it can require a bit of planning ahead of time for longer trips to make sure that you know when/where you are going to charge. At some time this will flip with gasoline being the outlier. |

In cities and nearby, electrics make sense and may be the majority in the future. However, cross country and long road trips will still need gas. Think of the massive infrastructure and power grid rebuilding if most cars change to electric. I just drove 1200 miles in 7 days out west and could not have done this trip if planned around recharging. I saw a total of 6 charging stations- all in in West Yellowstone. You don't even have cell phone service much of the time out there, so an EV would be very difficult if not impossible to use. I think hybrids will be very prevalent fairly soon however, giving you the best of both worlds. Of course I'm tired of EV owners getting by without paying gas taxes which are used for road building and maintenance. That needs to shift to a miles driven thing, as an EV wears the roads out as much as any other vehicle! George |

It will be available for longer than any of us will last. There are a lot of things that would have to change in order for electric vehicles to take over as a majority, and those changes will not come quickly. Many predict electric car popularity will plateau within 10 years and then possibly drop off again. Back in the early 1900's electric cars were gaining popularity but the oil companies fought it and won. I suspect this may happen again. |

When the energy storage of batteries in KWH per Kg become the same (which is not theoretically possible), and refuel time becomes similar, then all the long distance transport could move over to remote power generation (ie not in the vehicle but from a remote power generation source). Fear not roadside fuel provision is with us for a very, very long time yet. |
