MG TD TF 1500 - Got more painting done

We had some nice weather here in Northern California, so we blew up the paint booth and got more parts painted.

While it was 65 outside, the inside of the spray booth was around 75. perfect for painting.

Front fenders and hood top are done along with the front and rear valance. Rear fenders and hood sides tomorrow, and the tub on Saturday.

Then it is waiting for a few weeks and do the paint buffing.

You'd have to be happy with the colour Bruce, it's looking fantastic
William Revit

Agreed - remind me what the colour is? For future TC reference. John.

The Color is the TCP woodland green. It is taken from a color chart from the 1950's

Awesome paint work. Very glossy and clear reflections. Not a lot of cutting and buffing in your future. Well done :-)

Bruce,

What type of paint did you use? It looks beautiful.

These pictures definitely look like Woodland green to me. I think you made a good choice.

Its interesting to actually see the results of the TCP process.

It's Green

We got the tub done today. While the car is far from finished, This is a really big boost to me. It gives you that sense of accomplishment.

Now sanding the finish, polishing and getting it back together.

I still don't know how the factory painted the underside of the firewall, but our solution was a rolling base with poles that the tub sets on. This allowed us to lay down and paint under the firewall.

I did find a factory picture of an MGA being painted at the factory (they said that a few cars did get painted at the factory). They had it on a similar cart.

This blow-up paint booth really worked out well. I know most folks don't do their own painting, but if you do, $800 is a great investment.

We have other projects we are working on, so it will get used, but being able to roll it up and put it away, is really nice.

Here is the color code from TCP global. It was made from a 1950 color card that they have on their web page. Interesting that it is Morris Woodland Green.

Paint is $120 per gallon, with hardener, you are at about $170 per gallon.

With Thinner, Paint, Hardener, sandpaper, filler, primer and the booth, I am under about $1500 for the paint job.

As for how TCP paint holds up? We use it on the locomotives for the Excursion Train we volunteer for. These are out in the sun and weather all year long. The paint has held up very well on the trains.
