MG TD TF 1500 - Great Vendor - Rocker Arms Unlimited
I had a rocker arm assembly rebuilt by Rockers Unlimited in Redding, CA. It had a minor issue and I sent it back to be fixed. Absolutely no hassles with a super fast turn around. With service like that you may want to consider them in the future for your rocker arm needs. By the way I have used them for work on all my British cars and this is the first issue of any kind. Joe - I use them as well. What was the issue? On my last one they replaced all the Whitworth lock nuts with metric ones, but they sent me a bag of Whitworth ones when I inquired. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Tom, WHITWORTH??? As far as I know, all XPAG/XPEG engines use a tappet adjusting screw of 8mm X 1. Whitworth is a coarse thread nowhere close to the M8 X 1. |

Not sure Tom. Looked to me they milled a spacer just a little proud. But it is fixed now. Going to install after my Dyno tomorrow. Joe |

The problem that I had a few years ago was in the order of the rockers on the shaft. A minor glitch. The workmanship was superb. Lew, I think that Tom is referring to the locknut, not the adjusting screw. Bud |

Joe - They probably replaced the existing nuts with locally acquired 8 X 1mm, which is the proper thread, but the nut was a metric size wrench. The original nuts were 8 X 1mm but was sized to fit a Whitworth wrench (spanner). If you want a chart of the engine fasteners and the proper (Whitworth)size wrench or socket. Cheers - Dave |

Yes, I had them rebuild mine as well, an excellent piece of work. But, they stressed I send my old original shaft, "not one of the crappy ones from Chi..! Which they rebuilt up with chrome to original specs. Cheers...Barry |

I wish I lived in the States. Further to my recent posting about the TF's rockers I still haven't got the bushes sized to the shaft. I don't have a 15m/m reamer and if I did have one I wouldn't be able to guarantee a good fit to the shaft. I can't use an adjustable one since the bushes are split. I have taken them to two machine shops to see about honing and both have complained about the amount of material that needs to be removed and say they aren't able to say when they can start the job. Perhaps they are displeased I have pressed the bushes in myself. Looks as though I will have to parcel everything up and send the lot to a specialist. Unfortunately I thinks Rockers Unlimited is a little too far away from Scotland. Cheers Jan T |

Jan, I did mine by hand - absolutely straight forward. I used a tapered reamer 15mm which I go from China for abt �15. Oil pressure is back where it should be. Go to eBay and search for 15mm reamer. There are pages of choices. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qu�. |

The lock nut. "Mad Metric's" as Dave describes, with nut's threads M8 x 1.0 and made to fit a Whitworth spanner. |

Gord. Did you really use a taper reamer? Surely that makes a tapered hole? Or did you use a parallel reamer with a spiral flute? I'm just thinking a spiral flute might cope better with the split. Dave H |

At last I have found someone who does what they say. Took my rockers to an old (out of ) fashion machine shop. No laser calibrated machinery, no Serdi valve insert machine but plenty of micrometers and an owner in an oil soaked blue boiler suit. He said the rockers would be honed in two days and they were with an absolutely perfect fit, all for forty pounds. Of interest the oil pressure has risen by about 5psi. If anyone is replacing a rocker shaft take note of the oil holes. The oil feed is through the rear pedistal and it is possible to put the shaft in the wrong way around. Cheers Jan T |
